Each week on MI Local, you can meet the Michigan music scene — sometimes literally!

Singer-songwriter Emily Rose dropped by the studio at a fairly late hour, coming in fresh from a rehearsal for her monthly residency at the Ghost Light in Hamtrmack; Rose hosts the Ghost Night series on the second Wednesday of each month, performing covers of an iconic songwriter who has passed to the Great Beyond; and on Wednesday, Feb. 12, she’ll be covering Nick Drake, along with a second set of originals. While she was here, we listened to one of Rose’s most recently released tracks, “Graveyard of Fantasies.”

From there, we gracefully hopped all over the place, genre-wise, beginning with some high-energy alt-rock from The 3148s (pictured above), with one of their new singles, “Cabin Fever” — something we can all relate to in the depths of a cold Michigan February. We also heard power-pop from veteran songwriter Nick Piunti, and some zesty surf-funk out of Ypsilanti via Sudden Merganzer.

We also showcased the latest from Detroit-based producer Eddie Logix, and the ethereal folk auteur known as Greater Alexander, along with punchy-punk ballads from Fishfly and a newer band known cryptically as TY (…the text-lingo for “Thank You”).
