Authorities investigating eerie new footage from days before Nancy Guthrie abduction

Authorities are investigating eerie new footage from the days leading up to the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy.

The roughly 20-second Ring camera footage, from the early morning hours of Jan. 23, was published Friday by TMZ, which says the video was recorded roughly 6.5 miles from 84-year-old Guthrie’s home in Tucson, Ariz.

The clip shows a dark-haired man whose face is blurred, though a goatee is somewhat visible. His back is toward the camera as he leans over, holding what appears to be a towel, then moves his hands over the camera.

The homeowner, who initially posted the video on Ring’s Neighbors app, said the man in the video rang their doorbell at around 5 a.m. but ran off at the sound of the their dogs barking, according to TMZ.

Both the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department know of the video’s existence and are treating it as a lead, a source with knowledge of the investigation told the outlet.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home on the evening of Jan. 31 and was reported missing the following day, with authorities quickly treating the case as an abduction. The FBI on Thursday doubled their reward to up to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the conviction of her captor.

The agency’s Phoenix bureau has also released additional details about the male suspect, believed to stand between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10. He was wearing a 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Backpack, according to forensic analysis of doorbell camera footage taken from Guthrie’s home.

Earlier this week, the FBI released photos and video of Guthrie’s potential kidnapper. He can be seen outside her home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, wearing a ski mask with a goatee visible underneath.

That footage was a “huge, huge break” in the case, as retired Phoenix Homicide Sergeant Troy Hillman told Us Weekly.

Neighbors within a 2-mile radius of Guthrie’s home have been asked to scour last month’s security camera footage and report anything out of the ordinary to authorities.

The PCSD on Friday said there no press briefing scheduled for the day but said they’d alert the public of “any significant developments” in the case.

Google’s most-searched pop culture terms of 2025, explained

By: Jami Ganz
10 December 2025 at 18:25

The year 2025, like many in this decade, can’t easily be summed up by a single word or phrase, but the top Google searches of the year certainly offer a reminder of the most memorable pop culture moments of the past 12 months.

From singer D4vd and “KPop Demon Hunters” to Labubus and “6-7,” little in 2025 has escaped the lens of polarity — but the annual rundown from the world’s preeminent search engine suggests that some names, trends and “ugly-cute” keychains might benefit from further explanation.

Below, a breakdown of some of the year’s most disturbing, intriguing and baffling trends…

D4vd

The 20-year-old, Queens-born singer, real name David Anthony Burke, is the world’s most-searched person of the year, and America’s most-searched musician — but not because of his craft.

D4vd was at the beginning of a world tour in early September when the dismembered and decomposing remains of 15-year-old runaway Celeste Rivas Hernandez were found in the trunk of his impounded Tesla, sparking a search frenzy and devastating investigation.

The teen girl who was found dead in singer D4vd's Tesla in Los Angeles was identified Wednesday as Celeste Rivas, a 15-year-old girl who had been missing for more than a year.

As of mid-November, D4vd is considered a suspect in Rivas Hernandez’s apparent homicide, while a second person is believed to have assisted in the dismemberment of her body.

‘KPop Demon Hunters’

The Sony animated musical, released by Netflix this summer and newly crowned TIME’s Breakthrough of the Year, is U.S. Google’s top-searched movie of the year, while Oscar Best Picture winner “Anora” is the most-searched movie worldwide.

“KPop Demon Hunters” centers on a K-pop girl group that moonlights as titular demon hunters, voiced by Arden Cho, May Hong and Ji-young Yoo.

The film — whose cast was also the top-searched of 2025 — was such a streaming hit that it was granted a singalong event in late October, which accounts for its surprise Golden Globe nomination on Monday for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

It also scored far less shocking nominations for Best Motion Picture-Animated and Best Original Song for “Golden,” which has been streamed more than 1.1 billion times on Spotify. “Golden” also topped the list of the world’s “hum to search” songs.

Labubu

You’ve probably seen them hanging off a handbag, as the star of an influencer’s unboxing or on PopMart’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float. Created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, a Labubu — the No. 3 search of the year — looks like a plush, compact Furby meets a “Where the Wild Things Are” creature.

The dolls’ prominence comes a decade after their debut in Lung’s children’s books, “The Monsters,” in which they’re “zestful, curious elves about the size of your average house cat, who love a bit of harmless mischief.”

That mischief extends to the “blind boxes” in which Labubus are now sold, as proud owners don’t know which of the 300 options they’ll receive.

‘6-7’

If you’re old enough to read this, you may have been among those asking, “What does [insert chosen slang term] mean?” when it comes to, well, a lot, especially “6-7.”

New York’s top-trending slang search comes with a so-so hand motion, when the numbers are said or shown next to each other, according to some youngins who tried explaining it to Kelly Ripa and Mark Conseulos.

“But to be clear, it has no meaning at all?” Ripa asked, which was affirmed by adolescent “Live” audience members. “Basically it has no meaning at all.”

Dictionary.com’s Word of the Year, “6-7” — pronounced like six-seven, rather than sixty-seven — is Gen Alpha’s “viral, ambiguous” and “largely nonsensical” term, though it can sometimes connote “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that.”

‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ child actor Floyd Roger Myers Jr. dead at 42

30 October 2025 at 18:05

“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum Floyd Rogers Myers Jr., who appeared on the hit show as a child, has died. He was 42.

The “Jacksons: An American Dream” actor suffered a heart attack at his Maryland home early Wednesday, his mother, Renee Trice, confirmed to TMZ.

This was the fourth in a string of heart attacks over the past three years, according to Trice.

Myers’ screen career was short but notable, as the younger version of Will Smith in a 1992 “Fresh Prince” episode, “Will Gets Committed.”

The Daily News has reached out to Smith for comment.

Later that year, Myers appeared as Marlon Jackson, ages 7 to 9, in Parts I and II of “The Jacksons: An American Dream.” The Emmy-winning miniseries about the Jackson family also starred Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs as patriarch Joe Jackson, Angela Bassett as matriarch Katherine Jackson as well as Holly Robinson Peete, Terrence Howard, Billy Dee Williams and Vanessa Williams.

Myers’ last screen appearance was in 2000, when he was credited as a student in “Young Americans,” which aired for one season and starred Kate Bosworth and Ian Somerhalder.

Johnny Depp set to make mainstream return as Scrooge in ‘Christmas Carol’ remake

Johnny Depp appears set to return to the mainstream as Ebenezer Scrooge in Paramount Pictures’ adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” helmed by horror movie director Ti West.

The 62-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” star — whose career suffered for years in the wake of abuse allegations leveled by ex-wife Amber Heard — is said to be in final talks to star in “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol,” according to Variety and Nexus Point News.

Andrea Riseborough, similarly no stranger to controversy albeit of lighter fare, is also set to star.

While West is primarily known for making horror films, including the recent “X” trilogy, it’s not yet clear whether his version of “A Christmas Carol” will flirt with the gory genre.

The movie, which Paramount hopes to release next November, will mark Depp’s first role from a major studio since 2018’s “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”

He has slowly but surely been returning to the cinematic forefront after Heard, now 39, seemingly accused him of domestic abuse in an op-ed for The Washington Post, just over a month after the release of that film.

The allegations, after which Depp was fired from both the “Fantastic Beasts” and “Pirates” franchises, resulted in the exes facing off in a 2022 joint defamation trial that captivated the internet and led both performers to becoming persona non grata.

Riseborough, for her part, may best be known now for her eyebrow-raising Best Actress nomination at the 2023 Academy Awards. Her consideration campaign for “To Leslie” was accused of violating Academy rules by somehow enlisting a slew of celebrities to publicly sing her praises and increase her chances of a nomination.

The nod spurred a probe, which found “tactics that caused concern,” though the nomination was not rescinded.

‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ cast reuniting for CBS anniversary special

Everybody loves a reunion — and the “Everybody Loves Raymond” team is giving the people what they want.

Ray Romano, who starred as sports journalist Ray Barone, and creator Phil Rosenthal will host “Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion” on Nov. 24 at 8 to 9:30 p.m. ET, to commemorate both the 29 years since the Long Island-set sitcom premiered on Sept. 13, 1996 and the two decades since the show took its final bow in May 2005.

“Audiences are invited back to the recreated Barone living room for an unforgettable evening with America’s favorite family,” reads CBS’ press release.

There will be a “moving tribute” to the late Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle, who starred as Ray and Robert’s overbearing mother and sardonic father Marie and Frank — “fan favorites and the emotional anchors of the series.”

Brad Garrett and Patricia Heaton, who starred as Ray’s brother Robert and Ray’s wife Debra, will take part in the special’s “candid conversations,” as will Madylin and Sullivan Sweeten.

The Sweetens played Ray and Debra’s kids Ally and Michael, along with their late brother Sawyer, who played Michael’s twin Geoffrey. Sawyer died by suicide in 2015 at age 19.

“Raymond” earned 69 Emmy nominations and 15 wins — including twice taking home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series — during its nine-season run.

Speaking to the Daily News in October 2020, Emmy winner Rosenthal ruled out a reboot or remake “because we’re missing key ingredients” in the absences of Boyle and Roberts, who died in 2006 and 2016, respectively: “There is no show without them.”

“There’s an old showbiz axiom, by the way: get off the stage before somebody says, ‘Get off the stage.’ And we did. CBS wanted us to continue,” said Rosenthal. “And we wanted to stop before we became lousy.”
