We’re kicking off this week of In The Groove with some upbeat retro soul tracks from RIO KOSTA, Jordan Rakei, SAULT and more, plus we’re opening up the groove hotline to get your picks for songs that feel kinda spooky but aren’t necessarily traditional Halloween songs. You can call in and leave a voice message on the hotline (313-577-3414) and we’ll play them later this week!

Check the playlist below and listen to the episode for two weeks after it airs using the player above.

Listen to In the Groove with host Ryan Patrick Hooper weekdays from noon-3 p.m. ET on 101.9 WDET or stream on-demand at wdet.org.

To match the rainy weather in Detroit on Sunday, we fittingly played new music from the Pacific Northwest band Helen, with some 80s/Post-Punk/Shoegaze vibes. We also featured the grungy pop of Nashville’s The Sewing Club and a brand-new single from The Secret French Postcards.

Plus, we celebrated the anniversaries of This Mortal Coil’s album, “It’ll End in Tears,” The Cure’s “Charlotte Sometimes,” The Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Just Like Honey,” and Lush’s “Black Spring” EP.

We also talked about our upcoming spooky Halloween episode on Oct. 25!

Email me any Halloween song ideas at darrenrevell@wdet.org. They don’t have to be obvious Halloween songs. We’re going for mysterious, creepy, cool song ideas, Big Sonic Heaven style. Can’t wait to hear your ideas! Thanks for listening!
