Big Sonic Heaven: Paying tribute to Mani of The Stone Roses

This week’s episode of Big Sonic Heaven paid tribute to two great artists who recently passed: the bassist of The Stone Roses, Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, at the age of 63, and Rorika, half of the shoegaze duo Fleeting Joys, who passed away in July of this year. The latter news just became public a few days ago.

Plus, new music from Ashes and Diamonds, The Church, Ivy, and a track from the Chameleons’ first new album in over two decades.

Big Sonic Heaven: WDET Debut

Last night was the debut of Big Sonic Heaven on WDET. I’ve been doing the show for over 30 years, and last night was just as, if not more, exciting as ever!

Bringing BSH back home to Detroit was a thrill! As always, I love to mix classics with new cuts, and last night was no exception.

Some of my new favorites I played were Nother & Moon Leap “Until You Come Back Home,” Night Tapes “Helix,” Daniel Ash’s new band, Ashes and Diamonds with “Setting Yourself Up For Love,” and The Tear Garden “A Return.”

I’m so looking forward to being back in the studio this and every Sunday at 9 p.m. to play some more amazing tracks! Talk to you then.

Listen to the episode on-demand for two weeks after it airs using the media player above.
