One man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Detroit's west side early Monday morning.

We're told the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on Joy Road and Central Street, with police telling us that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the vehicle fled the scene after the crash, with the Detroit Police Fatal Squad looking further into the incident.

One person has been arrested after police found drugs and guns in their car during a traffic stop in Detroit on Saturday night.

We're told the traffic stop happened after a driver disregarded a stop sign. Troopers who pulled the suspect over say that they had a suspended license.

Police searched the car and found a Glock 40 caliber handgun behind the radio, along with over 50 grams of ecstasy and 19 oxycodone pills in the vehicle.

After receiving a search warrant, authorities went to the suspect's home and found cash, 28 more grams of ecstasy, 8 grams of methamphetamine, one revolver and a 12 gauge shotgun.

The suspect has been arrested and is currently lodged at the Detroit detention center, awaiting a court date.

After operating for nearly eight decades, a Downriver Bike Shop announced it's closing it's doors for good later this year.

Petri Bikes announced on Facebook that it's last day of business will be Saturday, Nov. 29.

A man accused in a deadly stabbing inside a Southgate Kroger this week will not be charged with the killing because prosecutors say he acted in self-defense.

The Wayne County Prosecutors Office says 33-year-old Charles Hinton will not be charged in the Tuesday killing, but theyve issued a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Prosecutors say Hinton was an employee at the Kroger on Fort Street near Pennsylvania Road and knew the victim but had never met him in person.

They say Hinton was at work when 23-year-old Ramon Vazquez walked in looking for him and suddenly started punching him.

While being attacked, Hinton pulled out a knife and stabbed Vazquez twice, killing him. Authorities say Hinton remained at the scene.

It's unknown at this time what led up to the attack.

Hinton is expected in court Saturday to be arraigned on the weapons charge. Under Michigan law, a person is allowed to use force when necessary to protect themselves.

Two men on trial for allegedly posing as DTE workers in a deadly home invasion in October 2024 have both been found guilty on all counts.

A jury on Friday evening found Joshua Zuazo and Carlos Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

In an unusual legal arrangement, the two defendants were being tried simultaneously but with separate juries that were selected earlier this week.

Both men were denied bond and are scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 9.

During testimony this week, the juries heard from the widow of the jewelry store owner killed last year in his Rochester Hills home. She provided emotional testimony in Oakland County Circuit Court Wednesday about the home invasion that left her husband dead and herself injured.

The two suspects allegedly posed as DTE utility workers to gain entry to their home.

Linda Murray testified about the events of Oct. 11, 2024, when her 73-year-old husband, Hussein "Sam" Murray, was killed inside their home.

"I was screaming and Hernandez hits me in the face to cover my mouth," Linda Murray testified when asked about her reaction to seeing blood at the scene.

Joshua Zuazo and Carlos Hernandez are accused of posing as DTE Energy workers who initially visited the Murray home on Oct. 10, 2024, claiming they needed to check for a gas leak. The family turned them away due to the late hour, but prosecutors say the men returned the following morning.

According to testimony, the suspects allegedly took Sam Murray to the basement, where they tied him up and killed him. Linda Murray was upstairs making breakfast when the men came upstairs demanding jewelry and cash.

Hernandez's attorney claims his client never intended to kill Murray, while Zuazo's attorney maintains his client was wrongly identified and was not present at the scene.

Grand Blanc Township provided an update on Friday afternoon on the deadly mass shooting and fire at a church last Sunday.

The police chief and the township supervisor spoke at the press conference, where they also released some bodycam footage of the incident.

"Very courageous actions. This is what law enforcement is trained to do, and that is how law enforcement should respond to these incidents," Police Chief William Renye said.

Renye also released an updated timeline of the events, saying that the incident lasted just under four minutes in total. He said the Department of Natural Resources conservation officer was the first to arrive at the scene less than two minutes after the first 911 call, followed a minute later by the Grand Blanc Township officer.

"After time, I've had some chance to review the body camera footage. I've also had to review the call logs, and what we found is from the time that the call for service went out to our officers, this incident ended much shorter than 8 minutes, 3 minutes and 43 seconds," Renye said.

According to Renye, both officers are on paid administrative leave, which is protocol in situations like this.

The chief said that officers fired at least 10 shots combined two from the DNR officer and at least eight from the Grand Blanc Township officer.

Four people were killed and 10 others were injured in the shooting and fire at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The suspect, 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford from Burton, was also shot and killed by responding officers. Police say he rammed a vehicle into the front of the church on Sunday morning, got out and opened fire.

Sanford is a veteran of the Iraq war who served four years in the Marines from June 2004 to June 2008, according to the U.S. Marine Corps.

John Bond, a Navy veteran and loving husband, father and grandfather, was identified by family as one of the victims who was shot and killed while attending Sunday service.

"He was a well known and loved member of his family and active in his community. John was a Navy veteran serving for 9 years, a lover of golf and trains and always loved spending time with his family and grandkids," read a GoFundMe page created for Bond's family.

The father of the man responsible for the deadly mass shooting and fire at a church in Grand Blanc Township spoke briefly to 7 News Detroit on Monday.

"I feel so bad about the families that were affected by this, aside from ours. Were not the only ones going through this devastation. We are beside ourselves," Sanford's father, Tom, said in the statement to 7 News Detroit

In collaboration with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the City of Detroit, the Downtown Detroit Partnership is holding a public meeting this evening on the I-75 Cap Feasibility Study.

The I-75 Cap is a project that will build public spaces over portions of the freeway, reconnecting communities that had initially been divided by the original highway construction in the 1950s.

The virtual meeting, which is free to the public, DDP will share details about the conception of the project, provide an update on the project and conduct a Q&A.

Two men who were strangers told us they rescued an alligator from Belle Isle Park in Detroit on Wednesday.

Last Friday, a gator was spotted near the water soaking up some sunshine. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources had been looking for the reptile to bring it to safety.

Troy Keteyian and Steven Hart while holding the gator told us they got the job done. They said they were strangers until they bumped into each other at the moment they both spotted the little gator.

"Upon walking down the shore, I spotted Steve here. I'm like, I wonder if he's trying to get the gator too. And sure enough, he was. And we converged on him, and it was, it was epic," Keteyian said.

"I spot him, happen to spot him. He popped right out. He's like, 'hey, can I help?' And then it was perfect because he flanked behind him and just pushed him right into the net," Hart said.

Hart had spent all day Tuesday looking.

The gator is safe at the Great Lakes Serpentarium in Westland. The gator will retire there instead of spending winter in the cold on Belle Isle.

Three physicians at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital spoke about the work they did and the care they provided after a mass shooting and fire at a Grand Blanc Township church over the weekend.

Dr. Alan Janssen, the emergency medicine residency program director and medical director of emergency medicine, Dr. Chris Ash, the medical director of surgical services and Dr. Sanford Ross, an attending emergency physician and assistant director of the emergency department, spoke on Wednesday, four days after a gunman opened fire at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township.

Henry Ford Genesys doctors speak on care they provided after mass shooting & fire

Janssen said that they were first alerted to the shooting after a phone call from one of the hospital's residents, who was inside the church. That resident told Janssen there was an active shooter.

About 15-20 minutes after that, ambulances started to arrive.

"As I walked into the emergency room, all these patients started rolling through the door with wounds you never see," Ash said. "People bleeding, little kids, it was really all hands on deck."

Ash said that the teams did an amazing job helping prioritize the care and keep everyone alive.

"Emergency medicine is a team sport. You need the entire team to be engaged. Everyone has to be on the same page," Janssen added, saying everyone worked together perfectly that day.

Ross recalled that he was in the department with Janssen when the first patient came in the door, a 6-year-old with his mom. He was taken to a trauma bay, and once the doctor's assessed his injuries, they reassured him he would be OK. That boy went home later that night.

According to the doctors, several of the hospital's residents went to the church and were with their kids when it happened.

"Some of them acted with heroics to bring people out of the fire. So, this is deeply personal to our community, not just our hospital," Ash said.

Two of the residents were injured, and one of the residents' children.

"What really turned us was not only the age and severity but also the connection. We were treating our own, which is always a little harder," Ross said.

In all, five people were treated for gunshot wounds and three for smoke inhalation. As of Wednesday, three people are still hospitalized, but all are improving.

The jury trials are underway for two men accused of killing a Rochester Hills man and disguising themselves as DTE workers to get into his house.

Police responded to a call at a Rochester Hills home on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, finding the man dead in a home on Newcastle Drive near Adams and Dutton roads

Investigators believe the family was targeted because they owned a pawn shop and jewelry store in Hamtramck. They say there's no indication the Murray's knew the two suspects.

Both men have been charged with Felony Murder and two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment. If convicted, the men face life in prison.

A man is now facing charges in the fatal stabbing of a woman at a Meijer gas station on Hall Road on Sunday evening.

Sidney Emmanuel Davis Jr., 25, was arraigned on first-degree premeditated murder on Wednesday afternoon at 41A District Court.

Police say officers responded to the gas station at 15301 Hall Road around 5 p.m. and found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries, police say.

"There's citizens that were outside using the gas station that observed the start of the assault. It started outside and ended inside," said Assistant Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney Elizabeth Abbo in court. "There was a clerk that was working inside that was also involved in this assault and tried to stop the attack and help the deceased."

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, the victim was Fatme Davis, the suspect's 23-year-old estranged wife. At the time of the incident, officials say the child of the suspect and the victim was reportedly in Fatme's car at the gas station for a custody exchange.

Davis Jr. allegedly left the scene after the stabbing but was later taken into custody by Macomb County Sheriff's deputies.

Fatme Davis's family is speaking out about the young woman.

"She brought life into every room that she walked into, and with everything that she went through in life, all the tragedies before this, having to grow up in the foster care system, not having parents, not having anybody to lean on. I was her brother. I tried to be the brother and the father in the situation, and she was doing so good in life," says her brother Saif Mahmoud. "There was nothing off limits when it came to taking care of her son; it was everybody right behind her. He is such a beautiful little boy, and my nephew will grow up to remember how beautiful and how much his mother loved him."

The family has started a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral costs and establish a trust fund for her son.

A not guilty plea was entered on the suspect's behalf at the arraignment on Wednesday. The judge denied bond for Davis Jr.

The allegations in this case are both shocking and deeply disturbing. A young mother was allegedly killed at the hands of her estranged husband, while their child sat waiting in the car. Our office is committed to pursuing this case to the fullest extent of the law to ensure justice is served," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a statement.

The next court date for Davis Jr. is October 7 at 1 p.m.; his preliminary exam day is scheduled for October 14 at 1 p.m.

One person is dead after a driver lost control on a curve and slid into oncoming traffic in Green Oak Township.

The crash happened on Monday morning around 7:45, at 9 Mile Road and Hammerstone Drive.

Investigators say that the driver of a Pontiac G6 was heading west on Nine Mile when he lost control on a curve, sliding sideways into the path of the driver of a Ford F-350.

A 53-year-old South Lyon woman who was in the front seat of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the Pontiac, a 28-year-old South Lyon man, was hospitalized for his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old Linden man, was uninjured in the crash.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt. Green Oak Township Police are investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash.

After flooding from last week's storms damaged the Capuchin Services Center and shut it down temporarily, the soup kitchen is continuing to host a mobile food pantry.

As a partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank, Capuchin had a mobile food pantry in the center's parking lot yesterday.

A spokesperson for the soup kitchen told us yesterday that Gleaner's will continue to operate the mobile food pantry in the center's parking lot (6333 Medbury Street in Detroit) today and Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We're told meal programs at the Meldrum and Conner Community Centers will go on as usual, with meals at their regular schedule.

As of Tuesday afternoon, it's unclear when the soup kitchen will fully reopen.

Friday is the deadline for people who want to take part in the class action lawsuit against Poppi.

VNGR Beverage LLC, the previous owner of the pre-biotic drink, recently settled a class action lawsuit that claimed the sparkling drink was improperly marketed as "gut healthy." Although court records show company officials didn't admit to any wrongdoing, they have agreed to refund nearly $9 million to customers.

The agreement calls for consumers to receive applicable refunds including $3 for each four-pack and $6 for each eight-pack. There's a $16 reimbursement cap for consumers without a proof of purchase.

Nearly a dozen families are suing the Huron Valley School District, a staffing company, and multiple school employees after a substitute teacher was convicted in the spring of sexually assaulting elementary school students.

Attorney Ven Johnson announced the filing of the civil suit on Monday on behalf of 11 families. According to Johnson, the assaults involved 10 children, while contact with an 11th person, who is now an adult, happened in 2016 at a sleepover.

The complaint alleges that multiple district employees failed to report suspected child abuse of Timothy Daugherty, 61, who was a substitute at Spring Mills Elementary in the Huron Valley School District. According to the complaint, beginning in 2019 at the school, Daugherty would allegedly hug students from behind and place his hand on their breasts, ask kids to sit on his lap, and engage in other inappropriate touching.

Daughtery was sentenced to 10-15 years in prison in July, convicted of six counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with numerous victims who were 10 years old and younger.

The district and its employees are mandated to protect innocent children under their supervision and they failed miserably , said attorney Ven Johnson in a statement. These parents begged school administration for help, only to be mocked, ridiculed and laughed out of board meetings. Rather than removing a known predator, the district continued to give him access to young children, and ignored the fact that these assaults were happening under their watch.

Named in the lawsuit are Daugherty; Sarah Betley, who was the principal of Spring Mills Elementary; Kelly Mattingly, a social worker at Spring Mills; Paul Salah, superintendent of Huron Valley Schools; the Huron Valley School District; and EduStaff, LLC.

The families are seeking in excess of $75,000 in damages in this case.

The Huron Valley School District has released the following statement:

The health and safety of our students is our top priority, and we take that responsibility very seriously. Huron Valley Schools wants to assure the parents and families in our district that we remain fully committed to the well-being of every student in our care. Due to ongoing litigation, we are unable to comment further on this matter at this time."

Ford Field in Detroit is about to transform into a site for free health screenings for men 18 years and older and they don't even have to have health insurance to participate.

The 15th annual event will happen on September 20 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and it's hosted by the Michigan Men's Health Foundation.
