Students from Brighton High School have raised $85,000 to donate to help cancer patients at Trinity Health.
A spokesperson for the hospital group says that that dollar amount is the highest since the high school started the year-round Pink Week fundraiser 13 years ago.
Earlier this month, Students presented Trinity Health Michigan leadership with the donation that will benefit cancer patients and services at the Warren R. and Lauraine A. Hoensheid Cancer Center, located inside Trinity Health Medical Center in Brighton.
Trinity Health says this money will go towards helping cancer patients access support services, transportation, education and other services not covered by insurance.
It is really amazing what the students and community do for our patients, said Katie Beekman, MD, medical director of oncology at Trinity Health Michigan. The dedication and generosity from the community around this cause continues to grow and amaze us every year. We are so fortunate to have this kind of support behind our work. It makes a tremendous difference to our patients.

According to a report to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lions run game coordinator and defensive line coach Terrell Williams is leaving the Lions to become the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.
Williams joined the Lions in 2024, manning a unit headlined by Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeil. Despite losing both those starters and several other players to injury, the Lions defensive line was part of a defense that only allowed 342 points last season, a mark that is seventh-best in the league. Under Williams in 2024, the Lions ranked fourth in pressures (179) and tied for 23rd in sacks
Williams worked under Mike Vrabel, the current Patriots head coach, with the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2023.
To aid with surgeries at it's locations in Ann Arbor, Livonia and Chelsea, Trinity Health has acquired three additional Next Generation Surgical Robots.
The Ann Arbor and Chelsea hospitals got da Vinci 5 robots, while the Livonia location got a da Vinci Xi robot. The first surgery using the new robotic system was performed at the Chelsea Hospital last month.
These new robots now give Trinity Health robotic surgery systems statewide. Trinity Health says that robotic surgery is less invasive compared to traditional open surgery. The health benefits include less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, and shorter recovery times. JKey features of the new system include enhanced imaging, improved precision, and more comfort for the patient.
"As a surgeon, I'm fortunate that Trinity Health provides me with the most advanced tools, enabling me to deliver the highest quality care and the best possible outcomes for my patients," said Amanda McClure, M.D., a colorectal surgeon and chair of the Robotic Surgery Steering Committee at Trinity Health Michigan. These technologically advanced systems enhance vision, precision, and control, all while providing me with real-time feedback. Anyone considering surgery should carefully research their options, including whether robotic surgery is appropriate for them. It's important to choose a highly trained and experienced robotic surgeon and to ensure the provider has capacity to schedule the procedure promptly.
Last year, Trinity Health hospitals performed more than 7,000 procedures with da Vinci robots, with that number expected to grow in 2025.

A Detroit police officer was killed earlier this weekend in a car crash, the department confirmed.
The department said that 32-year-old Cameron Richardson was off duty when the crash happened. In a press conference held Sunday afternoon, Interim Chief Todd Bettison said that Richardson was heading northbound on Hoover after his shift at the ninth precinct. At the intersection of Hoover and Greiner, Richardson's vehicle was struck by the driver of a white van attempting to make left turn.
"This is definitely a tragic day for the department," Bettison said.
Bettison later mentioned that the 911 call was received shortly after midnight early Sunday morning. Officers responding to the scene found Richardson's body, with Bettison saying that the officer "didn't suffer."
Michigan State Police troopers assisting in the investigation found the white van a short distance away from the crash, with a gun found in the vehicle. After executing two search warrants, two people in the van at the time of the hit-and-run crash have been taken into custody. The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man whose identity was not revealed by Bettison, is considered a person of interest.

"He hasn't turned himself in, we will have him shortly," Bettison said. "He is in close contact with the suspect's family and we believe he will turn himself in."
Bettison had been on the force just over a year after serving in the military, and leaves behind two daughters.
"We will never forget him," Bettison said. "He has two daughters and we are going to wrap our hands totally around this family right here."

Richardson's parents opted not to speak at the press conference, but did talk to 7 News Reporter Faraz Javed ahead of the press conference.
"(He was) quiet, loving, funny," said John Harris, Richardson's father. "He just did 10 years in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Seattle. He retired after doing 10 years of service...his goal was to be a police officer. He's got two daughters that he loved dearly and they wanted him here."
Richardson's parents said the daughters are 12 and 14 years old.
"I had just talked to him around the same time," Mona, Richardson's mother, said. "We said we loved each other at the end, that was the most important to me, but he was telling me he would be going on vacation to Brazil next month.
Both John and Mona said that Richardson was a great dad.
"He sacrificed so much for his kids," Harris said. "As he was growing, we never had any problems with him, never got into trouble, was always quiet, very respectful."
"The way he wears the uniform, whether it was serving his country, serving the men and women, serving the citizens of this fine city, I would say a humble servant," Bettison said. "He was just a servant. He served, he wanted to be a Detroit Police Officer."
After being out for the past seven weeks with a broken forearm, Detroit Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone will be returning for tonight's high-stakes game against the Minnesota Vikings.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport with The NFL Network. Anzalone will likely be on a limited snap count, with his snaps being monitored by Lions staffers. He will also wear a special pad on his forearm to prevent further injury.
Anzalone has been unavailable since breaking his forearm attempting to make a tackle in the Week 11 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Anzalone has been one of the Lions' captains since coming to Detroit in 2021. He's appeared in 55 games for the Lions over the past four seasons, and in eight games this season, Anzalone has made 51 tackles, six tackles for a loss, four quarterback hits, four passes defensed and 1.0 sacks, all while handling a lot of the communication for the defense.
Tonight's game has massive playoff implications for the 14-2 Detroit Lions, who host the 14-2 Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. With a win, the Lions clinch the NFC North and the 1-seed in the NFC, meaning every playoff game the Lions play ahead of the Super Bowl will be at Ford Field. With a loss, the Lions become the first Wild Card team with 14 wins in NFL history, and have to play at least one playoff game away from home.
A Manchester man has been arrested after opening fire at the Saline police station early Sunday morning.
Police say that the 39-year-old man entered the station just after 8 a.m. and fired three rounds on police premises. Authorities determined that this was the same man who had had Michigan State Troopers dispatched to his home after for a call about him being suicidal.
When troopers arrived to his home, they realized the man had already left. That man was calling Metro Dispatch from the police station parking lot, informing the dispatcher that he wanted police to shoot him.
This is when the man fired the rounds, with one of the rounds being fired at the occupied police station. No one was hurt
The situation was ultimately de-escalated and the man was eventually taken into custody. In a statement about the incident, the Saline Police Department acknowledged the assistance of Washtenaw County Sheriffs Office, Milan Police Department, Ann Arbor Police Department, Pittsfield Township Police Department and Michigan State Police.
Two handguns in the man's possession were confiscated, and charges are still being determined for this incident.
"This incident highlights the importance of mental health support and the challenges faced by law enforcement when dealing with individuals in crisis," said police chief Marlene Radzik in the statement. "Mental health support is available for you or someone you know who is suffering from a mental health crisis. Anyone in Washtenaw County can call the CARES team 24/7 at 734-544-3050. When deputies arrived on scene, they found three people who had been shot. Those people were transported to the hospital. The next day on Christmas, the sheriff's office said one of the victims died.
The other two victims "should be on the road to physical healing," the sheriff's office said in their update on Wednesday.
Neighbors say they heard at least four gunshots.
Well we were just sitting inside watching a holiday program and we heard four very quick gunshots. I mean, its pretty distinct when you hear gunshots," Tom Binkowski, who lives in the area, said. Its Christmas Eve. What are people thinking?
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says they have the suspect in custody and recovered a gun.
Investigators on Wednesday said they believe the shooting was random. The suspect allegedly was passing through the area and went "on a violent spree at multiple locations."
The suspect is a convicted felon who has multiple prior weapons offenses. He was taken to jail as formal charges are pending.
Binkowski says his wife is shaken up after the Tuesday shooting. The incident took place just steps from Oxford High School where the family lives.
"Anyone who goes through something like that, I think it's always going to be there," Binkowski said. "She's been on the phone with teachers at the school and has been talking about it, seems to help them through it."
Binkowski and other neighbors believe the victims may have been helping the shooter, who was off the road in a vehicle, when the shots rang out.

When Lions fans aren't cheering on their favorite team, they'll be able to go visit the Detroit Zoo's newest furry friend.
The Zoo announced their new Lion last week on Instagram. Kalu, pictured above, is nine years old and weighs 475 pounds.
The zoo says he has a maximum speed of 50 miles per hour, more than twice as fast as Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs max speed of 22.03 miles per hour logged in the win over the Tennessee Titans, per ESPN's Next Gen Stats.
He also boasts a horizontal jump of 36 feet and a roar volume of 118 decibels, about 15 decibels quieter than the recorded decibel level for the Lions playoff win against the Los Angeles Rams last season.
"Swing by the Zoo to see Kalu and add a roar to your day then cheer on the Lions as they prepare for their playoff push!" the zoo said in the post.
