Dearborn police want help identifying 'card skimming' suspect

Dearborn police want help identifying a man who they say installed a card skimmer on an ATM at the Bank of America branch on Warren Avenue and Hartwell this week.

Investigators say it's not the first time that same machine has been hit.

Dearborn police chief Issa Shahin explained, "A skimming device is something that is inserted, generally, into the ATM machine, and it's going to capture your banking information so that someone can then access your bank account and try to steal your funds."

For many local customers, the discovery is a frustrating reminder of a problem they're seeing all over metro Detroit.

"They been doing that at the gas stations too. When you put your tap in," customer Jaanna Glenn told 7 News Detroit. "I'm not surprised at all, but I wish they stop doing it cause it's hard for people who actually work and pay they bills. When we come, try and get our money, and you done took it."

Israel Omoniyi said, "People doing stuff like this, it just make it hard for people, hardworking people. I work 12-hour shifts. Yeah, it's unfair."

Chief Shahin said this is the second time this specific ATM has been hit in just a matter of weeks. In both cases, he said the skimmers were discovered by an ATM technician.

"It is really bold. Oftentimes, when we've had these similar incidents, they're usually organized crime rings from outside our local area. Ya know, your average person doesn't know how to do these things," he explained.

So far, the chief said no losses have been reported to police. But to protect yourself, he suggests you wiggle the card reader before inserting your card. If it feels loose or looks out of place, then don't use it and of course, report it.

When asked what she'd say to the thief, Glenn's replied, "Go get a job. Go get a job and leave us regular people alone."

Omoniyi said, "If you helping these type of people, speak up cause they'll steal from you too."

Police also suggest shielding the keypad while typing your pin number, in case thieves have hidden a camera nearby. Anyone with information on the case should call Dearborn police at 313-943-3030.

New Mexico official seeks search near Epstein ranch over claim of buried girls

A top New Mexico official is calling for an investigation into public land near Jeffrey Epsteins Zorro Ranch after a newly released email alleged that two foreign girls were buried there.

Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard said she requested an investigation after learning about a 2019 email included in recently released Epstein-related documents. The email, sent to a conservative radio host, claimed that two girls were buried on public land leased near the ranch. The act was allegedly done at the direction of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year federal prison sentence for sex trafficking.

There was a very disturbing allegation that came out that could potentially be linked to state land, Garcia Richard said. Because I am the manager of that land. Im the elected steward of that land and what occurs there and what the land is used for is of utmost interest and importance to us at the State Land Office.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT | Lutnick confirms 2012 boat visit with Epstein amid Senate questioning

She said, to her knowledge, neither the state land nor Zorro Ranch has ever been searched as part of a criminal investigation.

From reviewing historical documents, Garcia Richard said it appears the leased state land may have been used as a buffer around the ranch.

It seems like the state land was used almost as a buffer, a shield to hide what activity was occurring on the ranch ... to insulate visibility to what was occurring there, she said.

Garcia Richard said she is concerned the land could be a potential crime scene.

If state land was used for criminal activity, that is definitely something New Mexicans need to know, she said. Those are answers that victims and survivors need to have.

Garcia Richard said she has the authority to cancel leases on state land and confirmed that any party associated with Epstein was removed from the property. The lease was canceled in 2019 and has not been issued to anyone else.

However, she said the State Land Office does not have law enforcement authority.

"We are looking to partner with other agencies that do have that capacity to investigate the land," Garcia Richard said.

Garcia Richard said technology exists in New Mexico to conduct searches for possible unmarked graves, including ground-penetrating radar and cadaver dogs.

The land in question is fairly large, she said, but investigators would likely focus first on a specific area referenced as the hills behind Zorro Ranch, which she said is state land.

Garcia Richard said she has asked the New Mexico Department of Justice and federal authorities to get involved and plans to pursue other state partnerships if necessary.

Garcia Richard also said she reached out to the attorney generals office in 2019 seeking an investigation, but nothing was done at the time.

Former CNN journalist Don Lemon pleads not guilty in St. Paul church demonstration case

Don Lemon, an independent journalist who formerly worked for CNN, has pled not guilty to charges of violating federal civil rights protections when a protest interrupted a worship service in a Minnesota church in January, the Associated Press reports.

Lemon appeared in court Friday as one of five people arraigned in the case. He entered a not guilty plea.

He later issued a statement through his attorneys:

"The events before my arrest, and whats happened since, show that people are finally realizing what this Administration is all about. For them, the process is the punishment. Like all of you here in Minnesota, I will not be intimidated, I will not back down, and I will fight these baseless charges," he said.

Lemon said he was covering the protest as an independent journalist when demonstrators confronted a pastor at Cities Church in St. Paul, whom they accused of being an immigration enforcement agent. The coverage drew backlash from conservatives, who accused him of participating in the protest.

In January, Lemon was arrested "in the middle of the night" by a team of federal agents while he was in Los Angeles to report on the Grammy Awards.

He was released on a personal recognizance bond. Speaking to the media immediately following his release, Lemon said, "I will not stop now, I will not stop ever."

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Does TrumpRx beat your pharmacy's prices?

A quick run to the pharmacy can feel like a major budget hit lately, and families say they are looking for anything that might bring those costs down.

Joani Crone said for her, prescription prices lately have been ridiculous." She told us she gets her prescriptions from Kroger. Earlier this month, a new federal government-run prescription drug website called TrumpRx launched.

Crone said she was curious to learn more about it.

RELATED STORY | TrumpRX: What it is and how medical experts are reacting

I was reading up on it just this weekend. I'll have to see, have to compare prices, and convenience means a lot, Crone said.

WATCH: Here's what to know about TrumpRx and who might benefit from it

What is TrumpRx and who could benefit from it?What TrumpRx offers

At Day's Pharmacy in Western Hills, Ohio, manager Kevin Day said he's been answering questions from customers about the new TrumpRx site.

Day said that Trump RX is not a pharmacy. Instead, he described it as a clearinghouse that connects users with manufacturers' websites, offering the lowest cash prices.

A lot of families, unfortunately, have had to pay a lot of money for medications that are relatively inexpensive, and those new prices are even better, which is great, Day said.

When you first visit trumprx.gov, you see this message: "Find the world's lowest prices on prescription drugs."

RELATED STORY | Trump announces effort to lower cost and expand coverage for weight-loss drugs

Currently, TrumpRx lists around 40 drugs. They include treatments for conditions like obesity, heart disease, diabetes and fertility.

Who could benefit People without insurance Anyone paying cash for medications

Patients with insurance likely already receive negotiated prices that may be lower than the options on TrumpRx. As an example, Day showed us Wegovy.

"For Wegovy, we get the pen and the pill," Day said.

Wegovy costs $199 with TrumpRx, the current lowest cash price, according to Day. But Day also pointed out a couple of downsides. First, the website currently offers only a few dozen drugs.

"There are 43 medications on it today. I assume that number is going to go up," Day said.

Second, it does not list generics it only lists name brands. Day says his store offers the generic version of some of these for less, like the acid reflux drug Protonix, which costs $200 with TrumpRx.

"This is the most common drug we dispense. As a generic, we sell it for $14.85," Day said.

Prices can vary dramatically between pharmacies, even within the same chain. Like with any purchase these days, it pays to shop around, so you don't waste your money.

Shutdown looms: TSA, Coast Guard among agencies that could work unpaid

The federal government is poised to partially shut down at midnight, though the impact would be more limited than in past shutdowns.

Lawmakers are leaving Washington without passing funding for the Department of Homeland Security after Democrats pushed for immigration enforcement reforms as part of the spending bill.

Democrats are seeking new policies, including mandatory body camera use, adherence to standard warrant procedures and limits on mask-wearing by immigration agents. Republicans have not agreed to all of the proposals, leaving DHS funding in limbo.

RELATED STORY | Congress is set to leave town without funding DHS, making a partial government shutdown all but certain

Other federal agencies have already been funded, meaning only agencies within DHS would be affected until Congress reaches an agreement.

DHS oversees numerous agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Coast Guard.

According to testimony before a House subcommittee, thousands of DHS employees would be required to work without pay when the shutdown begins.

At the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, 888 of its 2,341 employees would be required to work without pay, with activities limited to those considered essential to protecting life and property.

At the Secret Service, officials said about 6% of its more than 8,000 employees would be furloughed.

Roughly 95% of TSA employees, about 61,000 workers, are considered essential and would continue working without pay.

A shutdown lasting more than a few days would result in missed pay for approximately 56,000 active-duty, reserve and civilian Coast Guard personnel.

FEMAs Disaster Relief Fund has enough money to continue operating for the foreseeable future, according to the testimony. However, state reimbursements would be disrupted and many FEMA employees would be furloughed.

South Korea intelligence says Kim Jong Un grooming daughter to be his successor

South Koreas spy agency told lawmakers on Thursday that it believes the teenage daughter of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is close to being designated as the countrys future leader as he moves to extend the family dynasty to a fourth generation.

The assessment by the National Intelligence Service comes as North Korea is preparing to hold its biggest political conference later this month, where Kim is expected to outline his major policy goals for the next five years and take steps to tighten his authoritarian grip.

In a closed-door briefing, NIS officials said they are closely monitoring whether Kims daughter believed to be named Kim Ju Ae and around 13 years old appears with him before thousands of delegates at the upcoming Workers Party Congress, said lawmaker Lee Seong Kweun, who attended the meeting.

First appearing in public at a long-range missile test in November 2022, Kim Ju Ae has since accompanied her father to an increasing number of events, including weapons tests, military parades and factory openings. She traveled with him to Beijing last September for Kim's first summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in six years on the sidelines of a World War II event.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT | President Trump meets with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on trade, North Korea

Speculation about her political future intensified last month when she joined her parents on a New Years Day visit to Pyongyangs Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, a sacred family mausoleum displaying the embalmed bodies of her late grandfather and great-grandfather, the countrys first- and second-generation leaders. Some experts saw the visit as the clearest sign yet that shes positioned to be the heir to her 42-year-old father.

South Korean officials initially expressed doubt that she could be chosen as a North Korean leader, citing the countrys deeply conservative culture and tradition of male-dominated leadership. But her increasingly prominent appearances in state media have prompted a reassessment.

In its previous assessment of Kim Ju Aes status in September, the NIS told lawmakers that Kim Jong Uns decision to bring her along on his trip to China was likely part of an effort to build a narrative possibly paving the way for her succession.

In the past, (NIS) described Kim Ju Ae as being in the midst of successor training. What was notable today is that they used the term successor-designate stage, a shift that's quite significant, Lee said.

According to Lee, the agency cited her growing presence at high-profile military events, her inclusion in the family visit to Kumsusan, and signs that Kim Jong Un was beginning to seek her input on certain policy matters.

Not much is known about Kims daughter

Despite her increased visibility in propaganda, North Korean state media have never published the name of Kim Jong Uns daughter, only referring to her as his respected or most beloved child.

The belief that she is named Kim Ju Ae is based on an account by former NBA star Dennis Rodman, in which he recalled holding Kim Jong Uns baby daughter during a trip to Pyongyang in 2013. South Korean intelligence officials believe she was born sometime that year.

In 2023, South Koreas spy agency told lawmakers that Kim Jong Un and his wife also likely have an older son and a younger third child whose gender is unknown.

Since its foundation in 1948, North Korea has been ruled by male members of the Kim family, beginning with the countrys founder Kim Il Sung and followed by his son, Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Un was just 26 when he was officially named heir during a 2010 party conference, two years after Kim Jong Il suffered a debilitating stroke. Following his fathers death in December 2011, he was abruptly thrust into the throne with relatively little preparation.

Some analysts suggest that Kim Jong Uns decision to debut his daughter early possibly reflects his own experience of being rushed into power.

Party congress may offer hints toward succession plans

Kim Ju Aes first known visit to Kumsusan last month was also her fathers first visit to the site in three years. Given the palaces status as a key symbol of the Kim family rule, the trip should be seen as a symbolic gesture by Kim Jong Un to present his daughter as his heir before his grandfather and father as he prepares for the major ruling party congress, said Cheong Seong-Chang, a senior analyst at South Koreas Sejong Institute.

The Workers Party congress in late February, last held in 2016 and 2021, could provide a stage for Kim Jong Un to formalize his succession plans, possibly by giving his daughter the partys first secretary post, its No. 2 job, although such a decision might not be immediately disclosed to the outside world, Cheong said.

Other analysts question whether she would receive such a high-profile post or any formal party role, given that party rules require members to be at least 18.

If Kim Jong Un does use the party congress to cement his daughter as successor, the signs would be more subtle, said Koh Yu-hwan, former president of South Koreas Institute of National Unification.

For example, the party may issue self-praise about how North Korea has survived longer than most other Communist states and credit that to how the country established a "successful inheritance of the revolution, he said.

If you see comments like that, it would be reasonable to think that Ju Ae has been cemented, as heir, Koh said.

β€˜I used to snort cocaine off toilet seats,’ RFK Jr. tells podcast

In a new podcast appearance, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. acknowledged his past drug use and said he is no longer afraid of germs.

During Thursdays episode of This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Kennedy admitted to snorting cocaine off a toilet seat. He added that he still attends meetings to help others overcome their addiction.

I mean for me, I said this when I came in, I dont care what happens, Im going to a meeting every day, Kennedy said. Im not scared of a germ, you know. I used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats. I know this disease will kill me if I dont treat it, which means going to meetings every day. Its just bad for my life so for me, it was survival."

RELATED STORY | RFK Jr. in interview with Scripps News: Trusting the experts is not science

Kennedy opened the show by saying he knows Von through recovery. The two began their recovery from cocaine addiction more than 40 years ago.

Kennedy has long been open about his past drug use, including before overseeing the nations leading health agencies. The New York Times reported he was arrested in 1983 for heroin possession in South Dakota.

At the Rx and Illicit Drug Summit in Nashville last year, Kennedy reflected on his addiction, saying he began using heroin as a teenager and continued for more than a decade.

Every addict feels that way in one way or another that they have to fix whats wrong with them, and the only thing that works are drugs, he said at the event. And so threats that you might die, that youre going to ruin your life, are completely meaningless.

Kennedys tenure at the Department of Health and Human Services has been met with both praise and criticism. The Trump administration has made significant changes to federal nutrition guidelines, placing more emphasis on protein and less on whole grains. It has also removed members from key health and vaccine panels, leading to changes to the childhood immunization schedule.

Elevate your Valentine’s Day with homemade chocolate-covered strawberries

Valentines Day just isnt the same without chocolate-covered strawberries.

Scripps News food and wellness contributor Jessica DeLuise, PA-C, shows you how to make them like a pro at home. From melting the chocolate just right to getting that smooth, glossy finish, she walks you through each simple step.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Ingredients

12-16 strawberries cleaned and dried thoroughly 1 cup dark chocolate chips 2 tsp coconut oil

Instructions:

Wash the strawberries and gently pat them completely dry. If you can let them air dry for 2-3 hours, that would be ideal. Leave the green stems on for easy dipping. Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in a double boiler. Heat on low heat until only a few chunks of chocolate remain. Remove from the heat and continue to stir, mixing in the rest of the chocolate until it melts. Hold each strawberry by the stem (or use a fork) to dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat evenly. Let excess chocolate drip back into the pot. If desired, sprinkle with crushed nuts, dust with cocoa powder, or other topping before the chocolate sets. Place the dipped strawberries on a silicone baking mat or parchment-lined baking sheet. Let the chocolate set at room temperature for 1015 minutes, or refrigerate 510 minutes for a faster setting. Arrange the chocolate-covered strawberries on a plate or platter. Serve immediately if possible

2 suspects arrested in connection with shooting during Partridge Creek tree lighting

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a shooting at Patridge Creek mall during the tree lighting last November.

Clinton Township police said on Friday the two suspects were taken into custody, but didn't provide more information.

The Nov. 23 shooting near the MJR Theater left a 17-year-old boy hospitalized during what should have been a festive community gathering in Clinton Township. In December, a family friend says the victim is recovering but still has a long road ahead.

Watch Randy Wimbley's video report below:

Partridge Creek mall shooting suspect remains at large a month after tree lighting

The incident has left lasting impacts on families who witnessed the chaos that night.

"It hit me hard because I was with my grandkids. And they were definitely traumatized from it," Virginia Selvaggio said.

Selvaggio was at the tree lighting with her grandchildren when the shooting occurred.

"It was like this stampede. Everybody started running and we've got the kids and we just ran to our cars," she said.

Clinton Township Supervisor Paul Gieleghm said the shooting involved two minors who got into an altercation.

"It was one of those things where isolated with them, this happened in public, but it's not an event targeted toward the public," he said.

In response to the incident, Gieleghem says Partridge Creek has beefed up security at the mall, and Clinton Township police have stepped up patrols to ensure shopper safety.

Steak ’n Shake’s kitchen overhaul leaves customers asking why

The fast-food chain Steak n Shake announced it will remove microwaves from all of its locations by April 15, prompting questions about why the company used them in the first place.

The company said it is embracing Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedys Eat Real Food movement.

Quality restaurants dont need microwaves, Steak n Shake said in a statement. It is part of our journey to improve food quality and use traditional methods of cooking only.

The announcement spurred more questions about the restaurants past use of microwaves.

Just curious, what exactly do you currently microwave in the process of making a steakburger, french fries and milkshakes? one person wrote on X.

Texas Restaurant Supply, which sells commercial microwave ovens, says microwaves can help prepare ingredients, sanitize kitchen utensils and warm plates. They also offer a time-effective way of melting butter, chocolate or cheese.

Although convenient, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service notes that microwaves tend to cook food unevenly, leaving cold spots where harmful bacteria can survive. The agency recommends using a kitchen thermometer to ensure proper heating.

In 2025, Steak n Shake drew attention for frying its fries in beef tallow instead of seed oils. Kennedy has criticized seed oils, despite limited scientific evidence that beef tallow is healthier. Some experts say beef tallow may be worse for health because it contains more saturated fat, which is associated with a higher risk of heart disease.

Steak n Shake also announced it is offering Coca-Cola made with cane sugar. Most cans of Coca-Cola Classic contain high-fructose corn syrup as the primary sweetener.

Steak n Shake operates about 400 locations nationwide, down from 600 nearly a decade ago.

According to police, Farries assaulted Graus, got back in the vehicle and then ran Graus over as he fled the scene, killing him.

Police arrested Farries a short time later after a brief pursuit.

"This was a deliberate attempt," said Detroit Police Captain Marcus Thirlkill, who said that the attack appears to be random.

"Great work by troopers and Dearborn Police officers to take this suspect into custody," said F/LT. Mike Shaw in a post on X. "Fortunately, no one was hurt in this pursuit. The suspect was turned over to Detroit Police for their investigation. We will also seek charges against the suspect for the pursuit and damage to patrol cars."

Inflation cools to 2.4%, closer to Fed's target

The consumer price index showed that prices for the 12 months ending in January increased by 2.4%, which marked the lowest 12-month inflation rate in the U.S. since last May, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Since 2000, the average annual inflation rate has been 2.1%. The Federal Reserves target inflation rate is 2%, but inflation well below that level has often signaled an economic recession.

RELATED STORY |Β Everyday affordability remains a top concern for American shoppers

The consumer price index weighs the costs of goods by their importance, with items such as food, shelter and energy carrying more weight. As of the end of last month, food prices rose 2.9%, energy costs remained stable and shelter costs climbed 3%.

Economists had warned that tariffs implemented by President Donald Trump could significantly drive up inflation, but recent data show no substantial increase in consumer prices tied to those tariffs. Yale Universitys Budget Lab reported in November 2025 that tariffs added about $1,400 to annual expenses for the median U.S. household, with costs varying by income. Clothing, electronics and metal goods were among the most impacted categories, the report said.

The consumer price index is a key factor in determining federal interest rates. The Federal Reserve weighs inflation data alongside employment figures when making rate decisions. Rising inflation or a slowing job market can lead to rate hikes.

In 2025, the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates three times. At its first meeting of 2026, the Federal Reserve opted to keep interest rates the same.

RELATED STORY | US applications for jobless benefits jump by 22,000 to 231,000 last week, the most in 2 months

The board had suggested that interest rates were likely not to change anytime soon. This report, coupled with a stronger-than-expected employment data from earlier this week, might have the Federal Reserve rethinking its strategy.

The next Federal Reserve meeting is not until March 17-18, meaning members will have one more month of economic data to examine before determining whether another interest rate drop is in store.

Epstein gifts and emails prompt resignation of Goldman Sachs general counsel

Kathy Ruemmler, the top lawyer at storied investment bank Goldman Sachs and former White House counsel to President Barack Obama, announced her resignation Thursday, after emails between her and Jeffrey Epstein showed a close relationship where she described him as an older brother and downplayed his sex crimes.

Ruemmler said in a statement that she would "step down as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of Goldman Sachs as of June 30, 2026.

Up until her resignation, Ruemmler repeatedly tried to distance herself from the emails and other correspondence and had been defiant that she would not resign from Goldmans top legal post, which she had held since 2020.

RELATED STORY | Key Democrat accuses the Justice Department of 'spying' on lawmakers reviewing Epstein files

While Ruemmler has called Epstein a monster in recent statements, she had a much different relationship with Epstein before he was arrested a second time for sex crimes in 2019 and later killed himself in a Manhattan jail. Ruemmler called Epstein Uncle Jeffrey in emails and said she adored him.

In a statement before her resignation, a Goldman Sachs spokesperson said Ruemmler regrets ever knowing him.

In her statement Thursday, Ruemmler said: Since I joined Goldman Sachs six years ago, it has been my privilege to help oversee the firms legal, reputational, and regulatory matters; to enhance our strong risk management processes; and to ensure that we live by our core value of integrity in everything we do. My responsibility is to put Goldman Sachs interests first."

Goldman CEO David Solomonsaid in a separate statement: "As one of the most accomplished professionals in her field, Kathy has also been a mentor and friend to many of our people, and she will be missed. I accepted her resignation, and I respect her decision.

RELATED STORY | Pam Bondi deflects from Epstein files as Democratic lawmakers press her for answers

During her time in private practice after she left the White House in 2014, Ruemmler received several expensive gifts from Epstein, including luxury handbags and a fur coat. The gifts were given after Epstein had already been convicted of sex crimes in 2008 and was registered as a sex offender.

So lovely and thoughtful! Thank you to Uncle Jeffrey!!! Ruemmler wrote to Epstein in 2018.

Historically, Wall Street frowns on gift-giving between clients and bankers or Wall Street lawyers, particularly high-end gifts that could pose a conflict of interest. Goldman Sachs requires its employees to get preapproval before receiving or giving gifts from clients, according to the companys code of conduct, partly in order to not run afoul of anti-bribery laws.

As late as December, Goldman CEO David Solomon described Ruemmler as an excellent lawyer and said she had his full faith and backing.

Second US carrier strike group heads to Middle East in Iran standoff

The United States will send the world's largest aircraft carrier to the Middle East to back up another already there, a person familiar with the plans said Friday, putting more American firepower behind President Donald Trump's efforts to coerce Iran into a deal over its nuclear program.

The USS Gerald R. Ford's planned deployment to the Mideast comes after Trump only days earlier suggested another round of talks with the Iranians was at hand. Those negotiations didn't materialize as one of Tehran's top security officials visited Oman and Qatar this week and exchanged messages with the U.S. intermediaries.

RELATED STORY | Trump warns of 'very traumatic' outcome for Iran if no nuclear deal is reached

Already, Gulf Arab nations have warned any attack could spiral into another regional conflict in a Mideast still reeling from the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Iranians are beginning to hold 40-day mourning ceremonies for the thousands killed in Tehran's bloody crackdown on nationwide protests last month, adding to the internal pressure faced by the sanctions-battered Islamic Republic.

The Ford's deployment, first reported by The New York Times, will put two carriers and their accompanying warships in the region. Already, the USS Abraham Lincoln and its accompanying guided-missile destroyers are in the Arabian Sea.

The person who spoke to The Associated Press on the deployment did so on condition of anonymity to discuss military movements.

Ford had been part of Venezuela strike force

It marks a quick turnaround for the Ford, which Trump sent from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caribbean last October as the administration build up a huge military presence in the lead-up to the surprise raid last month that captured then-Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro.

It also appears to be at odds with Trumps national security strategy, which put an emphasis on the Western Hemisphere over other parts of the world.

Trump on Thursday warned Iran that failure to reach a deal with his administration would be very traumatic. Iran and the United States held indirect talks in Oman last week.

I guess over the next month, something like that, Trump said in response to a question about his timeline for striking a deal with Iran on its nuclear program. It should happen quickly. They should agree very quickly.

Trump told Axios earlier this week that he was considering sending a second carrier strike group to the Middle East.

Trump held lengthy talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday and said he insisted to Israel's leader that negotiations with Iran needed to continue. Netanyahu is urging the administration to press Tehran to scale back its ballistic missile program and end its support for militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah as part of any deal.

The USS Ford set out on deployment in late June 2025, which means the crew will have been deployed for eight months in two weeks time. While it is unclear how long the ship will remain in the Middle East, the move sets the crew up for an usually long deployment.

The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ford's deployment comes as Iran mourns

Iran at home faces still-simmering anger over its wide-ranging suppression of all dissent in the Islamic Republic. That rage may intensify in the coming days as families of the dead begin marking the traditional 40-day mourning for the loved ones. Already, online videos have shown mourners gathering in different parts of the country, holding portraits of their dead.

One video purported to show mourners at a graveyard in Iran's Razavi Khorasan province, home to Mashhad, on Thursday. There, with a large portable speaker, people sang the patriotic song Ey Iran, which dates to 1940s Iran under the rule of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. While initially banned after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran's theocratic government has played it to drum up support.

Oh Iran, a land of full of jewels, your soil is full of art, they sang. May evil wishes be far from you. May you live eternal. Oh enemy, if you are a piece of granite, I am iron.

What's bugging metro Detroit as spring nears? We check in with local doctors

If you feel like there's still a lot of coughing and sneezing at work, school and at home you're not wrong.

Doctors across metro Detroit say winter viruses are sticking around longer than usual this season, and some symptoms are lingering for weeks.

At Orchard Primary Care in Farmington Hills, Dr. Brandon Karmo said it has been a busy cold and flu season. Karmo is also the president-elect of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians.

"A lot more than we're normally used to. Flu, COVID, the common cold," he said.

Karmo said one of the biggest trends he's seeing isn't a brand-new illness. Instead, it's what happens after you recover.

"You've seen people where this cough just lingers, weeks, sometimes even months. And really, what it is, it's a hypersensitivity in the airways," Karmo said.

Also, a lot of inflammation, despite you not being sick or contagious. Nearly 40% of patients develop a post-infectious cough after COVID, the flu or even a simple cold. The best treatment is old-school basics.

And a lot of inflammation. But youre not sick or contagious. Nearly four in ten patients develop a post-infectious cough after COVID, flu, or even a simple cold. The best treatment? Old-school basics.

"It's just fluids, supportive care. Tea with honey and just giving it time," Karmo said.

The flu is still circulating, too, even though the peak may have passed. Karmo's advice for travel and crowded spaces.

Flu is still circulating too, even though the peak may have passed.

His advice for travel and crowded spaces?

"Wash your hands. If you don't feel well, just for the courtesy of others, stay home. Wear a mask in crowded areas," Karmo said.

At Corewell Health in Novi, Dr. Asha Shajahan saw a swell of the flu this season.

"Especially influenza A. That has kind of come down a little bit. There is still the cough and cold going around, sinusitis, that type of thing," Shajahan said.

Sinusitis is the inflammation of the sinus lining, commonly caused by viral infections like colds, allergies, or bacterial infections that block mucus drainage.

Symptoms include facial pressure or pain, thick nasal discharge, headache, and congestion. Treatment usually involves rest, fluids, saline rinses, and decongestants. Shes also seeing GI bugs like norovirus.

"We're indoors more, gathering around people indoors more, then those bugs kind of circulate and we can get infected easier," Shajahan said.

Also, she said the icy conditions are sending more people to the doctor.

"A lot of bruising, back pain, like a lot more falls this year than before. So I would definitely say be careful," she said.

Her advice? Wear boots with grips and take it slow.

Meanwhile, Wayne State University pediatric and internal medicine specialist Dr. Eric Ayers says flu is still spreading quickly, especially among kids and older adults.

"Are you seeing it remain unchanged and still spreading pretty rapidly?" I asked.

"I would say that the latter, that it's unchanged in spreading very rapid," Ayers said.

That's in both in Detroit and across metro Detroit. Wastewater surveillance by The Wigginton-Eisenberg Laboratory at the University of Michigan shows Mount Clemens being hit hard by Influenza A & B, RSV, and COVID.

Ayers says parents should trust their instincts and watch sick kids closely for signs of distress.

"So they're not getting enough oxygen. So then they become fatigued, tired, sleepy; not as energetic, or not as active as they should be," Ayers said.

Then its time to get help. Hes seeing RSV hit adults harder than before and norovirus and other stomach bugs popping up in schools and workplaces.

His message to people is "hand-washing, hand-washing, hand-washing; is very important."

The good news is that spring is just over a month away and with the warmer weather, these seasonal viruses will fall off, just in time for allergy season.
