According to Ford, the Glass House is set for demolition over the next 18 months and the site will be repurposed.

The City of Dearborn has released the following statement about the announcement:

"Ford Motor Companys importance to our community cannot be overstated. More than just the industrial heartbeat of the modern American economy, Fords legacy is deeply intertwined with this citys history. Weve been proud neighbors with the world headquarters across Michigan Avenue, and we are excited for Ford to contribute to the citys vitality as the company finds a new home in its expansive new, state-of-the-art research hub just down the road in Dearborn. Board of Trustees vote to add drones to Waterford Township police arsenal

28 August 2025 at 16:56

Three drones will soon be added to the Waterford Township Police Department, after the township's board of trustees approved a new three-year contract.

Over the course of the next three years, the department has agreed to pay more than $400,000 to Flock Safety to use their Aerodome drones, which will work hand-in-hand with automated license plate readers already used by the department and software used by the department's 911-Emergency Operations Center.

That money for Year 1 of the contract $100,000 in base payment and an additional $10,000 for potential electrical issues and additional expenses will be part of this year's police budget, adopted by the Board of Trustees in this week's meeting. The board intends to make budget adjustments in the two following years ($150,000 each year) to pay for the drones.

"With this increased response capability, we increase our presence without adding the costs that go along with hiring more Police Officers," the chief said in a document proposing the drones made available to the publuc after the meeting. "Remember, never in place of, but in addition to, to enhance our overall capabilities. Each time a drone responds to a call for service, it's a unit, or additional units at the scene. When we are able to clear calls without sending ground units, those units are free to respond to, or remain available for other emergency calls."

It is not clear at this time when the drones will be put into use by the police department.

Suspect charged in stabbing death of 2 people at Detroit pool party

26 August 2025 at 20:05

A suspect has been charged in the stabbing death of two people at a Detroit pool party earlier this month.

According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Daiwan Lemane Hopson, 31, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder.

Watch Carli Petrus' full report after the incident below Neighbors react after 2 killed, 2 hospitalized after stabbing at pool party on Detroit's east side Hear from DPD on the stabbing WATCH: DPD speaks after two killed, two hospitalized in stabbing at pool party

Detroit Police say they got the call of the stabbing at a home in the 18500 block of Fleming just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 9

According to Deputy Chief Arnold Williams, the stabbing stemmed from an argument over a woman at the pool party. Per DPD, one male suspect stabbed four people after that argument.

Two people a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s died in that stabbing. Two other men in their 30s were hospitalized, with one man in critical condition.

What started out as a friendly family and friends end of the summer gathering turned deadly with four people stabbed. Two succumbed to their injuries. A disagreement. A quick escalation. An introduction of a deadly weapon. And then multiple deaths. So senseless. So tragic. And so very violent, Worthy said in a statement.

Neighbor Deborah Griffin says that the house, an Airbnb that's been on her street for a few years, has become a serious problem. Calling it the "party house", Griffin and other neighbors told us the loud music and crowded streets have become a nuisance, but they never imagined it would turn deadly.

With this being so close to home, that was very scary for me," Deborah said. At first everything was nice, because they fixed it up because the house had been burned down they fixed it up it was a really nice house, but then every weekend its bad because of the parties...I never thought, you know, that something like this would happen."

She continued to say that this was the final straw.

You had mentioned that youre going to take some action here, youre going to go to a meeting, city council meeting, I mean what would you like to see done?" 7 News Reporter Carli Petrus asked.

I want it gone really," Deborah said of the house." I mean, I hate that for the owner, but you know, Id rather it not be in a residential area, you know, right on a block like this, I mean if it was contained, it would be okay, but its just bad that we have to deal with this every weekend.

Man killed in Pontiac crash, fifth fatal pedestrian crash in city this year

26 August 2025 at 16:35

A 77-year-old West Bloomfield man is dead after being hit by the driver of an SUV in Pontiac earlier this week. According to the Oakland County Sheriff, it's the fifth fatal pedestrian crash in the city of Pontiac this year.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Monday (Aug. 25), in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Elm Street.

Investigators tell us that a 45-year-old Imlay City driver was heading north on MLK Jr. Boulevard when the 77-year-old walked into the road. Police believe that the man was trying to cross the street to ask for directions when he stepped into the path of the SUV.

That man, who police identified as Jehad Alrayess, passed away at a nearby hospital. Police say that alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Including the five fatal incidents, police say there have been 10 pedestrian-involved crashes that caused significant injuries in the city of Pontiac in 2025.

"The Sheriff's Office reminds both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant," said a representative of the Sheriff's Office in a media release. "Drivers are urged to stay alert, particularily in residential and high-traffic areas, and pedestrians are encouraged to use crosswalks whenever possible and exercise caution when crossing busy roadways."

Freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood has been named Michigan's starter for Week 1 against New Mexico, head coach Sherrone Moore announced at his weekly media availability on Monday morning.

Watch our report from the 12 p.m. show Head Coach Sherrone Moore speaks on Bryce Underwood being named Week 1 starter

Hes earned the opportunity. It was not given to him, Moore said. He took ownership of the team.

This news doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering Underwood is the top-ranked recruit in the 2025 class and the Wolverines reportedly signed Underwood for millions through NIL to sway him away from LSU. Multiple outlets, including ESPN and 247 Sports, reported on Sunday night that Underwood was expected to be named the starter as well.

Underwood is the fourth freshman to start the season at quarterback for the Wolverines, joining Rick Leach (1975), Chad Henne (2004) and Tate Forcier (2009).

The five-star metro Detroit native is coming off a historic high school career. Playing at Belleville High School, about 20 minutes east of Michigan's campus, Underwood threw for 11,488 passing yards and 152 passing touchdowns while also rushing for 1,431 yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. Before he could legally drive a car, Underwood led Belleville to back-to-back Division 1 state championships in 2021 and 2022.

"He's all business, man," said Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsay during spring practices in March. "He loves football. That's the most important thing. And he really wants to be the best player he can be."

The Wolverines finished the 2024 regular season with a 7-5 record before beating Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, 19-13, on New Year's Eve. Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Wolverines open the season as a 36.5-point favorite against the New Mexico Lobos. Mary Sheffield endorsed by Mayor Mike Duggan in Detroit's mayoral race

20 August 2025 at 15:53

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has endorsed Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield in the 2025 Detroit mayoral race.

The announcement came on Wednesday at a home on the city's west side

Duggan, who is running for Governor as an independent candidate, is set to complete his third term as Detroit's mayor at the end of this year.

Related Interview: Political analyst Mario Morrow weighs in on endorsement announcement Interview: Political analyst reflects on Mayor Duggan's endorsement of Mary Sheffield

For 12 years, Mary Sheffield has been a major force in Detroits recovery, Duggan said in a news release. She used her leadership on council to make sure every voice was heard and to make sure each program included all Detroiters. She is clearly the most qualified candidate to be the next Mayor of Detroit.

Sheffield, a member of Detroit's city council since 2013, received the most votes in the August primary. She is facing Pastor Solomon Kinloch Jr. in the general election this November.

Voters will pick who will succeed Duggan in September.

During the primary, Kinloch received an endorsement from the UAW, calling him a longtime advocate for the working class.

Below is a statement from Kinloch on the endorsement:

Mayor Mike Duggan doesn't get the right to decide his successor. The voters in Detroit will determine the next Mayor in November. We dont have coronations. A mayoral endorsement wont stop the violence in our streets. It wont ensure a better education or create more opportunities for our children. After 12 years on the Detroit City Counciland 4 more as Council Presidentif you havent fixed it by now, youre not going to. Detroit doesnt need recycled ideas or the same politics that have left too many neighborhoods behind. Detroit needs fresh leadership, with the courage to do what career politicians couldnt. This campaign is about voters who want to see investment in neighborhoods, not just Downtown. They want a mayor who will make housing affordable for everyone, a leader who will attack poverty, and someone with a proven record of taking direct action to uplift our communities. Multiple people were hospitalized after a wrong-way crash on The Lodge Freeway early Sunday morning, according to the Michigan State Police.

We're told the crash happened at S/B M-10 Fwy near Grand River Avenue, just after 1 a.m.

Investigators say that a 27-year-old driving a Chevy Impala was driving south in the northbound lanes when he struck a Nissan passenger car head-on.

Five other vehicles were involved in secondary accidents off of this crash.

In the initial crash, MSP says that multiple people were transported to the hospital to treat serious injuries.

MSP is continuing to investigate this crash.

It appears that the wrong way driver was impaired and this led to the crash, said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. There is no reason to drive impaired with all the options available to get around. We are very fortunate that there were not any deaths in this crash.
