Michigan Online Job Fair happening this week; here's what you need to know

30 December 2025 at 19:56

If you're looking for a job heading into 2026, you can apply and get interviewed immediately this week as part of the Michigan Online Job Fair.

The job fair organized by the statewide virtual hiring initiative that aims to place more qualified candidates into jobs is happening today through Saturday, January 3. Roles companies are hiring for include skilled trades, education, transportation, customer service, logistics, and administrative roles.

Every year, people are told to wait until 2026 to apply for jobs, and that advice simply isnt true, said CJ Eason, President of Workforce Development with Job Fair Giant. Employers already know which roles they must fill immediately. Between December 30 and January 5, hiring managers are at work scheduling job interviews and discussing current job openings with potential candidates; the pressure to hire people before the year starts is dire for many local companies with big plans for growth and expansion in 2026. Budgets are finalized, and hiring decisions happen faster now. This is one of the strongest windows of the year to randomly call employers, interview, and get hired.

Featured employers at the job fair include EdTec Central, Stellantis, and Airlines Parking at Detroit Metro Airport.

Job seekers can register and get interviewed at this link. Interviewees can attend any of the following hiring sessions:

Tarik Skubal playing for Team USA in 2026 World Baseball Classic

18 December 2025 at 16:23

Tigers left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal will pitch for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, he confirmed on Instagram on Thursday morning.

Skubal has been named the AL Cy Young in back-to-back seasons, and he is coming off a career year in 2025. Across 31 starts in the regular season, Skubal has put up a 13-6 record, posting a better Earned Run Average (2.21), a better WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched, 0.891) and more strikeouts (241) than his first Cy Young-winning season. Skubal was one of six Tigers named All-Stars earlier this summer.

In three starts this postseason, Skubal was even more dominant. In three starts, Skubal posted a 1.74 ERA, a 0.68 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts, giving up just 10 hits in 20.2 innings pitched.

The Tigers are reportedly trying to sign Skubal to a new deal, as the pitcher has one year left on his current contract and could hit free agency following the 2026 season. With Skubal at the helm, the Tigers posted an 87-75 and advanced to the American League Divisional Series for the second season in a row.

Skubal is the first Tigers player to be named to Team USA's roster. He's the second Tigers player to be named to a World Baseball Classic roster, joining infielder/outfielder Javier Baez with Puerto Rico.

Mom in Pontiac abandonment case pleads no contest on Welfare Fraud charge, still faces child abuse charges

1 December 2025 at 18:45

A Pontiac mother accused of abandoning her three children for years pleaded no contest to Welfare Fraud on Monday, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor.

Kelli Bryant, 34, faces three counts of First Degree Child Abuse, with the case moving forward. She still faces trial in the abuse cases, with no sentencing agreement or offer of leniency from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office reached

On Feb. 14, Oakland County sheriffs detectives were horrified to find three children, ages 12, 13 and 15, living in squalor and abandoned in a Pontiac home for four to five years.

"Id never smelt a home that smelled that bad without a decomposing body present," a detective said this past winter.

If convicted, Bryant faces life in prison, with another court appearance scheduled for next month.

The resolution of the Welfare Fraud charges in no way impacts the case against Kelli Bryant on the more serious allegations of Child Abuse, said Prosecutor Karen McDonald via press release. We fully intend to hold her accountable for the abuse these children suffered because of her alleged neglect.
