Two people are dead, and four people, including two kids, were injured in a crash involving four vehicles in Saline Township on Friday night, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash involving three vehicles and a semi-truck happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Willow Road.

Investigators say that a 56-year-old Brooklyn, Michigan, man was driving a Dodge Ram and heading west on Michigan Avenue when he tried to pass a semi-truck.

During the attempted pass, the driver of the Dodge Ram struck the driver of a Jeep Cherokee heading east.

Police say the collision caused the driver of the Jeep to lose control and run off the roadway. The Dodge Ram driver side-swiped the semi truck and continued west, colliding head-on with the driver of a Chevy Silverado.

The two people who died in the crash were the driver of the Dodge Ram and the driver of the Silverado, a 43-year-old man from Osseo.

Two people sustained what police say are serious injuries: the 36-year-old Tecumseh woman driving the Jeep Cherokee, and the lone female passenger in the Silverado, a 46-year-old woman. Both women sustained critical injuries and were hospitalized at the University of Michigan Hospital.

The two kids riding in the Jeep, a five-year-old girl and her two-year-old brother, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

MSP said that alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the rear parking lot of Harper Woods High School during a high school football playoff game Friday night, Harper Woods police said.

It shooting happened around 9:30 p.m., minutes before the game ended for Harper Woods High School and Chandler Park Academy. A large fight broke out before the shooting, police said.

Authorities say the shooting happened despite there being a large law enforcement presence at the game that included Harper Woods police, the Wayne County Sheriffs Office and Michigan State Police.

The 17-year-old victim, a Warren resident, was shot in the lower torso. His injuries are not life threatening, police said.

He was treated at the scene by the Harper Woods Fire Department before being taken to the hospital by ambulance.

As of Friday night, there was no suspect in custody. Police did not immediately provide suspect information.

The freighter that ran aground in the Detroit River on Friday was freed on Saturday afternoon.

The 740-foot-long Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin, a Canadian cargo ship got stuck on Friday near the Renaissance Center.

According to tracking records, the ship was headed to Quebec City.

"There have been no reports of injuries, pollution or impact to the marine transportation system," the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

Tug boats worked to get the ship free and turned around in the river on Saturday afternoon.

Police say they are investigating after two people were killed in a shooting in Shelby Township on Friday.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. at Star Auto Sales in the area of Ryan and Auburn.

Were told police are investigating this as a double homicide. Shelby Township police were called to the scene for a welfare check and found two deceased men. One is a 48-year-old from Clinton Township. The other is a 40-year-old resident of Shelby Township.

No arrests have been made yet, police say. A K-9 unit was being used in the area. Police remained at the scene for several hours.

"Its just a cruel world. Thats all I can say," said Dunya Jarbooa, who works at a restaurant nearby. "I thought I heard something and I thought I was crazy and then a noise and then two minutes later, a cop goes by."

Richard Katona said he and others he works with across the street saw police arrive.

"First, we saw the police were there and they went in with a riot shield and cops stacked up, and thats the first we noticed of it," Richard Katona said.

He said his team checked surveillance video for suspicious activity.

So our footage shows an individual. It looks like black sweats, black hoodie, he's got a white surgeon's mask on, walks right through Speedway's parking lot up the sidewalk, crosses the road right here, he disappears into the building then six, seven minutes later, you see him come out the back and (go) into the subdivision it looked like, Katona said.

Cameras at Boost Mobile also captured who police say is the suspect.

I played it back and he goes like yeah, the suspect was wearing all black wearing, a beanie thats what we seen through our camera walking past over here, Yousif Qachi said.

Police are asking the community to avoid the area while they investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Shelby Township police at 586-731-2121.

Farmington Public Schools announced that all of its schools will be closed on Friday due to fiber line damage that was caused by a car crash in the area.

Damage to the fiber line has disrupted some network operations including internet and phone services that are critical for learning, communication and safety, the district said.

Crews are working to restore services quickly.

The district said it will share updates when the issue is resolved and families will be notified when school can safely resume.

The federal government has charged two Michigan men after they allegedly conspired to commit an act of terrorism over Halloween weekend, according to a criminal complaint unsealed on Monday.

Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, both residents of Dearborn, have been charged with gun crimes. The criminal complaint also references two co-conspirators and a juvenile in the alleged plot that the feds say the individuals were planning to carry out on behalf of ISIS.

According to the criminal complaint that detailed an investigation spanning several months, the conspirators had purchased multiple AR-15-style weapons, tactical gear, and had been documented practicing at local gun ranges and looking for possible attack locations.

Conversations between the five individuals, who reportedly referred to themselves as "brothers," happened on encrypted communication applications and referenced an attack on "pumpkin day," which the feds believe was in reference to Halloween.

I gotta do the pumpkin for real . . . if [UI] dont do the pumpkin Im gonna slit my wrists," Ali said, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint says that Ali and Mahmoud traveled together and scouted possible attack locations in Ferndale on September 19 and 20, including three bars on Woodward Avenue. Investigators believe they were possibly targeting LGBTQ+-friendly locations.

"Given that Person 1, Ali, and Mahmoud are all under twenty-one-years old and based on what I have learned during this investigation, I believe it is unlikely Person 1, Ali, and Mahmoud would have traveled to this area at this time to patronize these clubs or drink alcohol," the criminal complaint reads.

During the raids conducted at homes in Dearborn on Friday, Oct. 31, agents recovered three AR-15 style rifles, two shotguns, four handguns and more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition compatible with the rifles.

They also found optical sights, two GoPro cameras, a flash suppressor, tactical vests and other related firearms parts and accessories.

Separately, in a storage unit in Inkster where agents also searched, they found two more chest rig vests, tactical backpacks and 24 empty magazines compatible with the three seized AR-15 style rifles.

The complaint comes after FBI Director Kash Patel announced on social media on Friday that the agency had thwarted a potential terror attack planned for Halloween weekend in Michigan.

Over the weekend, a Michigan defense attorney representing one of the suspects disputed Patel's claim.

Longtime Detroit radio host and TV anchor Warren Pierce has died at the age of 82.

According to an online obituary, Pierce died on Oct. 31.

Pierce was a beloved Detroit broadcaster, working at 760 WJR, hosting The Warren Pierce Show, and anchoring at Fox 2.

According to his obituary, Pierce interviewed over 70,000 people during his career.

His obituary says Pierce leaves behind four daughters and four grandchildren.

Warren was known as a supporter of the University of Michigan and its football team. He also had a deep love for animals, his obituary said.

A man riding a motorcycle has died after a crash in Detroit early Sunday morning, Michigan State Police said.

The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. near Davison Freeway and Woodrow Wilson Street.

A 58-year-old motorcyclist of Redford Township was driving northbound on Woodrow Wilson when he crossed over eastbound Davison to make an unauthorized turnaround, state police said.

When he crossed, he was hit by an SUV going eastbound on Davison. A 32-year-old woman of Detroit was driving the SUV.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, MSP said.

Drug impairment may have been a factor in the crash, investigators said.

This investigation is on going, MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw said in a statement. It is pending ME reports and vehicle inspections and blood results.

A teenager has died after being hit by a vehicle in Frenchtown Township early Saturday morning, the sheriffs office said.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. on N. Telegraph Road south of Paree Street.

A 15-year-old boy from Carleton was walking southbound on Telegraph on the northbound shoulder of the road close to the white fog line, the Monroe County Sheriffs Office said. He was walking with a friend, a 14-year-old boy from Newport.

As they were walking, the 15-year-old was hit by a white Dodge Journey that was driven by a 31-year-old woman from Newport. The vehicle came to a controlled stop in the parking lot of the Marathon gas station near the crash.

Deputies say the driver was unaware that she hit a person and thought she crashed into a non-fixed object. After noticing the damage on her vehicle, she reported the crash to the sheriffs office. She was not injured.

The victim was found in the east side ditch line of northbound Telegraph, deputies said. He was wearing dark-colored clothing.

The 15-year-old was taken Corewell Health Trenton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said driver inattention is a factor in the crash.

A suspect was taken into custody after a fatal hit-and-run crash in St. Clair Shores Saturday morning, police said.

The crash happened around 9:40 a.m. on Francis Street near Champine Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 76-year-old woman from St. Clair Shores lying next to the road.

Later that day, a 31-year-old woman from St. Clair Shores was arrested.

The case is now pending review by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office. Additional details have not yet been released.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan authorized $1.75 million in emergency funding to help food pantries stock up if SNAP benefits are suspended, the city announced on Friday.

The city said Forgotten Harvest and Gleaners Food Bank would each receive $770,892 and Metro Food Rescue would get $250,000.

Duggan is expected to announce next week an emergency food distribution network with more than 100 sites across Detroit, the city said.

The mayors office is working with city departments and other partners including the philanthropic community to find sustained funding if SNAP benefits are stopped for an extended amount of time.

"We are hopeful that Congress will act to restore SNAP funding so our government is not using food access for families in need as a weapon in political disagreements. But if they do not, the City of Detroit will continue to work to make sure food pantries are stocked and our most vulnerable residents have access to the food they need," Duggan said in a statement.

Earlier Friday, two federal judges in separate cases ruled that the Trump administration cant end SNAP benefits during the government shutdown. The administration was ordered to use emergency funding just one day before the program was set to stop on Nov. 1.

Detroit City Council President Pro Tem James Tate, who chairs the Budget & Finance committee, will lead efforts to get additional funding if needed, the city said.
