Students from Brighton High School have raised $85,000 to donate to help cancer patients at Trinity Health.
A spokesperson for the hospital group says that that dollar amount is the highest since the high school started the year-round Pink Week fundraiser 13 years ago.
Earlier this month, Students presented Trinity Health Michigan leadership with the donation that will benefit cancer patients and services at the Warren R. and Lauraine A. Hoensheid Cancer Center, located inside Trinity Health Medical Center in Brighton.
Trinity Health says this money will go towards helping cancer patients access support services, transportation, education and other services not covered by insurance.
It is really amazing what the students and community do for our patients, said Katie Beekman, MD, medical director of oncology at Trinity Health Michigan. The dedication and generosity from the community around this cause continues to grow and amaze us every year. We are so fortunate to have this kind of support behind our work. It makes a tremendous difference to our patients.

According to a report to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lions run game coordinator and defensive line coach Terrell Williams is leaving the Lions to become the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.
Williams joined the Lions in 2024, manning a unit headlined by Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeil. Despite losing both those starters and several other players to injury, the Lions defensive line was part of a defense that only allowed 342 points last season, a mark that is seventh-best in the league. Under Williams in 2024, the Lions ranked fourth in pressures (179) and tied for 23rd in sacks
Williams worked under Mike Vrabel, the current Patriots head coach, with the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2023.
To aid with surgeries at it's locations in Ann Arbor, Livonia and Chelsea, Trinity Health has acquired three additional Next Generation Surgical Robots.
The Ann Arbor and Chelsea hospitals got da Vinci 5 robots, while the Livonia location got a da Vinci Xi robot. The first surgery using the new robotic system was performed at the Chelsea Hospital last month.
These new robots now give Trinity Health robotic surgery systems statewide. Trinity Health says that robotic surgery is less invasive compared to traditional open surgery. The health benefits include less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, and shorter recovery times. JKey features of the new system include enhanced imaging, improved precision, and more comfort for the patient.
"As a surgeon, I'm fortunate that Trinity Health provides me with the most advanced tools, enabling me to deliver the highest quality care and the best possible outcomes for my patients," said Amanda McClure, M.D., a colorectal surgeon and chair of the Robotic Surgery Steering Committee at Trinity Health Michigan. These technologically advanced systems enhance vision, precision, and control, all while providing me with real-time feedback. Anyone considering surgery should carefully research their options, including whether robotic surgery is appropriate for them. It's important to choose a highly trained and experienced robotic surgeon and to ensure the provider has capacity to schedule the procedure promptly.
Last year, Trinity Health hospitals performed more than 7,000 procedures with da Vinci robots, with that number expected to grow in 2025.

A Detroit police officer was killed earlier this weekend in a car crash, the department confirmed.
The department said that 32-year-old Cameron Richardson was off duty when the crash happened. In a press conference held Sunday afternoon, Interim Chief Todd Bettison said that Richardson was heading northbound on Hoover after his shift at the ninth precinct. At the intersection of Hoover and Greiner, Richardson's vehicle was struck by the driver of a white van attempting to make left turn.
"This is definitely a tragic day for the department," Bettison said.
Bettison later mentioned that the 911 call was received shortly after midnight early Sunday morning. Officers responding to the scene found Richardson's body, with Bettison saying that the officer "didn't suffer."
Michigan State Police troopers assisting in the investigation found the white van a short distance away from the crash, with a gun found in the vehicle. After executing two search warrants, two people in the van at the time of the hit-and-run crash have been taken into custody. The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man whose identity was not revealed by Bettison, is considered a person of interest.

"He hasn't turned himself in, we will have him shortly," Bettison said. "He is in close contact with the suspect's family and we believe he will turn himself in."
Bettison had been on the force just over a year after serving in the military, and leaves behind two daughters.
"We will never forget him," Bettison said. "He has two daughters and we are going to wrap our hands totally around this family right here."

Richardson's parents opted not to speak at the press conference, but did talk to 7 News Reporter Faraz Javed ahead of the press conference.
"(He was) quiet, loving, funny," said John Harris, Richardson's father. "He just did 10 years in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Seattle. He retired after doing 10 years of service...his goal was to be a police officer. He's got two daughters that he loved dearly and they wanted him here."
Richardson's parents said the daughters are 12 and 14 years old.
"I had just talked to him around the same time," Mona, Richardson's mother, said. "We said we loved each other at the end, that was the most important to me, but he was telling me he would be going on vacation to Brazil next month.
Both John and Mona said that Richardson was a great dad.
"He sacrificed so much for his kids," Harris said. "As he was growing, we never had any problems with him, never got into trouble, was always quiet, very respectful."
"The way he wears the uniform, whether it was serving his country, serving the men and women, serving the citizens of this fine city, I would say a humble servant," Bettison said. "He was just a servant. He served, he wanted to be a Detroit Police Officer."
After being out for the past seven weeks with a broken forearm, Detroit Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone will be returning for tonight's high-stakes game against the Minnesota Vikings.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport with The NFL Network. Anzalone will likely be on a limited snap count, with his snaps being monitored by Lions staffers. He will also wear a special pad on his forearm to prevent further injury.
Anzalone has been unavailable since breaking his forearm attempting to make a tackle in the Week 11 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Anzalone has been one of the Lions' captains since coming to Detroit in 2021. He's appeared in 55 games for the Lions over the past four seasons, and in eight games this season, Anzalone has made 51 tackles, six tackles for a loss, four quarterback hits, four passes defensed and 1.0 sacks, all while handling a lot of the communication for the defense.
Tonight's game has massive playoff implications for the 14-2 Detroit Lions, who host the 14-2 Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. With a win, the Lions clinch the NFC North and the 1-seed in the NFC, meaning every playoff game the Lions play ahead of the Super Bowl will be at Ford Field. With a loss, the Lions become the first Wild Card team with 14 wins in NFL history, and have to play at least one playoff game away from home.
A Manchester man has been arrested after opening fire at the Saline police station early Sunday morning.
Police say that the 39-year-old man entered the station just after 8 a.m. and fired three rounds on police premises. Authorities determined that this was the same man who had had Michigan State Troopers dispatched to his home after for a call about him being suicidal.

This is when the man fired the rounds, with one of the rounds being fired at the occupied police station. No one was hurt
The situation was ultimately de-escalated and the man was eventually taken into custody. In a statement about the incident, the Saline Police Department acknowledged the assistance of Washtenaw County Sheriffs Office, Milan Police Department, Ann Arbor Police Department, Pittsfield Township Police Department and Michigan State Police.
Two handguns in the man's possession were confiscated, and charges are still being determined for this incident.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says they have the suspect in custody and recovered a gun.
Investigators on Wednesday said they believe the shooting was random. The suspect allegedly was passing through the area and went "on a violent spree at multiple locations."
The suspect is a convicted felon who has multiple prior weapons offenses. He was taken to jail as formal charges are pending.
Binkowski says his wife is shaken up after the Tuesday shooting. The incident took place just steps from Oxford High School where the family lives.
"Anyone who goes through something like that, I think it's always going to be there," Binkowski said. "She's been on the phone with teachers at the school and has been talking about it, seems to help them through it."
Binkowski and other neighbors believe the victims may have been helping the shooter, who was off the road in a vehicle, when the shots rang out.

$27 million in outstanding medical debt for more than 46,000 Wayne County residents has been erased, the county's Department of Health, Human and Veteran Services announced.
FULL INTERVIEW: Warren Evans talks about erasing medical debt FULL INTERVIEW: Warren Evans talks about erasing medical debt
The debt came from a local hospital, who the department said wanted to remain anonymous but "is committed to community benefit and making healthcare accessible."
The debt has been relieved thanks to a county program which aims to wupe out more than $700 million in medical debt for county residents. The patients include residents in Wayne County who are four times or below the federal poverty line, or have medical debt that equals at least five percent of their annual income.
With this program, we are doing our part to address the way our national healthcare affordability crisis affects Wayne County residents. Medical debt is a financial anchor on too many families, often forcing them to choose basic everyday needs or being forced to pay medical bills. We are proud to work with Undue Medical Debt to help bring a measure of relief to vulnerable families throughout Wayne County, said Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, Wayne County Health Director and Director of Health, Human, and Veterans Services.
Those who have had their debt relieved will receive an Undue branded envelope in the mail this week, signed by Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans.

A water main break has halted running water going towards Harsens Island, according to officials.
Residents of Clay Township got a push alert Thursday morning from St. Clair County Homeland Security and Emergency Management, saying that the water main break is "causing complete loss of service to Harsens Island."
According to an official with St. Clair County Homeland Security and Emergency, the sole water pipeline that runs under the north channel, that provides the entire water supply for Harsens Island, broke underwater. They are not able to put a diver into Lake St. Clair to assess the damage and possible repair options, as the conditions in the water are too dangerous. There are three-foot waves on the lake right now due to the winds.
It's estimated that 600 homes, or 1,500-2,000 people, on the island are without water. Emergency management is in the process of coordinating delivery of bottles of water and two-gallon water containers to deliver to the fire department on Harsens Island

After closing the 2023 season with a National Championship, the Wolverines followed up that success with a 7-5 record including wins over Michigan State and Ohio State and a date with No. 11 Alabama in the Reliaquest Bowl on New Year's Eve. That game is set to kick-off at Noon, and won't include two All-American Michigan defenders in defensive tackle Mason Graham and cornerback Will Johnson, who have both declared for the NFL Draft.
The Wolverines play six home games and don't play consecutive games at Michigan Stadium at any point next season.
Michigan's open weeks AKA their bye weeks will be the weeks of Sept. 27 and Nov. 8. The Wolverines will host New Mexico, Central Michigan, Wisconsin (homecoming), Washington, Purdue and Ohio State while traveling to face Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC, Michigan State, Northwestern and Maryland.
Here is the regular season schedule in it's entirety:
Aug. 30: New Mexico Sept. 6: at Oklahoma Sept. 13: Central Michigan Sept. 20: at Nebraska Sept. 27: bye Oct. 4: Wisconsin Oct. 11: At USC Oct. 18: Washington Oct. 25: At Michigan State Nov. 1: Purdue Nov. 15: at Northwestern (per Big Ten Network, this game will be played at Wrigley Field) Nov. 22: at Maryland Nov. 29: "The Game" against Ohio State
Unless the Wolverines get a 5-8 seed in next season's college football, That game on November 29th will be the last home game for Michigan's seniors.
A couple interesting notes about the schedule:
The September game against Oklahoma will be a homecoming of sorts for Sherrone Moore, who played offensive line for the Sooners in 2006 and 2007. Michigan's match-up against USC is the first time Michigan will face the Trojans as a Big Ten opponent. it will be just the second time Michigan will face USC in Los Angeles, with the previous match-up being a 16-6 Michigan win in 1957. Michigan will be facing New Mexico for the first time in school history in the opening week of the season.
Football season ticket renewals will be available near the end of January. If you are interested in eventually purchasing season tickets, you can learn more at this link.
After three seasons at the University of Michigan, All-American cornerback Will Johnson has declared for the NFL Draft, he announced on Instagram this morning.
Will Johnson came to Michigan as a five-star recruit after starting all four of his high school seasons at Grosse Pointe South High School.
Over three seasons, Johnson established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in all of college football and was one of the key pieces in Michigan's national championship run last season.
Here is a list of everything the cornerback accomplished individually:
All-American (first team, 2023)
Two-time All-Big Ten selection (consensus first team, coaches and media, 2023; second team, media, honorable mention, coaches, 2024)
Jim Thorpe Award Semifinalist (2024)
Defensive MVP, 2023 National Championship Game
Shared Defensive Freshman of the Year honors (2022)
Two-time letter winner (2022-23)
Johnson earned 22 starts in the 32 games he appeared in, racking up 68 tackles and nine interceptions over parts of three seasons, along with three touchdowns off of those interceptions.
Johnson has only appeared in six games this season after dealing with a nagging toe injury. He is projected to be a top-ten pick in the NFL draft by most draft analysts.

The township's fire department responded to the fire, which broke out at the home in the 2400 block of Indianwood Road, around 5:30 a.m. this morning.
First responders were told that a person was trapped in the basement of the home. Fire fighters were able to get him out before he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Oakland County Medical Examiner said he died of smoke inhalation.
Another resident was at the home at the time of the fire, but the fire department said they were able to escape without injury.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A Waterford Township man is dead after police say he drowned in an Oakland County lake late Monday evening.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office tells us that a Waterford Township Police found Joselito Estonilo Garcia, 61, under a dock on Maceday Lake. He was found after a 911 call was placed, where the caller said they heard a voice calling for help and someone thrashing in the water just before 10 p.m.
After life-saving measures were performed on the man, Garcia was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning.
Police were initially told that there may have been another person in the water, but no other person was discovered in the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team's search.
Investigators say that the likely cause of death for Garcia was drowning. If that's the case, it would be the 13th drowning in an Oakland County lake this year. Authorities also believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the drowning.
This has been an extremely tragic year for drownings in Oakland County, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement on the drowning. Sadly, many threads are common with drownings and often include alcohol consumption. That is under investigation in this case as well. We urge people to be safe in and around water.

7 News Detroit witnessed this crash when it happened live on the MDOT cam. We won't show you video of the crash out of respect for the people involved, but we did see a disabled car in the middle of the roadway get rear-ended.
A spokesperson for the Detroit Fire Department tells us that two people were transported to the hospitalized in this crash. They say one person is in critical condition and the other suffered non-life threatening injuries.
All four lanes on this portion of the highway were closed for about two hours so officials could survey the damage, starting around 6 a.m., but have since been re-opened.
This is a developing story. 7 News Detroit has a crew at the scene, and we will update this story as we learn more.
Eight months after being sentenced 10-15 years in prison on involuntary manslaughter charges, Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of Oxford school shooter, is challenging her conviction and is hoping to get her sentence overturned.

In a press release, Crumbley's attorney, Michael Dezsi, claims that his client's convictions "stem from a trial riddled with legal errors where key evidence was withheld, and cooperation agreements were peddled and suppressed to secure testimony for the prosecution to convict an individual who committed no crime."
Crumbley's son opened fire at Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021, killing four students Tate Myre, Hana St. Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin and Justin Shilling and injuring six other students and a teacher.
"The prosecution has tried to mold us into the type of parents society wants to believe are so horrible that only a school or mass shooter could be bred from," Crumbley said in her sentencing in April. "This is a very unfair assumption to have. We were good parents, we were the average family," she said.

Deszi is also claiming that two of the prosecution's key witnesses entered cooperation agreements to testify against Mrs. Crumbley, and that the defense was unaware of this agreement, which denies Crumbley's right to a free trial.
With the assistance of law student's from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Deszi's office formally requested that Crumbley's convictions be thrown out. This comes in the form of a 34-page legal brief filed with the court, which you can read in it's entirety below.
"Theres a reason why no parent in America has ever been held responsible for the criminal acts of their child in relation to a school shooting. It is because Mrs. Crumbley committed no crime. This case should be concerning for parents everywhere," Deszi concludes in the statement.
7 News Detroit has reached out to the Oakland County prosecutor's office for comment on this matter. A representative for the office sent us the statements below from Prosecutor Karen McDonald and Chief Assistant David Williams.
Parents everywhere are worried. But they are not worried about being prosecuted, they are worried about their kids being shot at school. James and Jennifer Crumbley are the rare, grossly negligent exception, and twenty-four jurors unanimously agreed they are responsible for the deaths of Hana, Madisyn, Tate, and Justin. Holding them accountable for their role is one important step in making our schools safer. In response to the arguments in Defendants Motion regarding witness testimony. Statement from Chief Assistant David Williams: No witnesses were given anything for their testimony, and there was no immunity these witnesses testified without any promises or protection whatsoever. The Michigan Court of Appeals has already reviewed the legal issues raised by Jennifer Crumbley and rejected them. Where there are egregious facts like these where two parents ignored the obvious signs that their son was in crisis, bought him a gun and failed to secure it, and then failed to disclose the existence of the gun or take their son home when he drew out his plans, including writing blood everywhere with a picture of a gun and a body with bleeding bullet wounds, they can and should be prosecuted. For ease of reference please see the attached opinion from the Michigan Court of Appeals, noting the statement on page 16 that reads: Defendants actions and inactions were inexorably intertwined with ECs actions, i.e., with the intervening cause. This connection exists not simply because of the parent-child relationship but also because of the facts showing that defendants were actively involved in ECs mental state remaining untreated, that they provided him with the weapon used to kill the victims, and that they refused to remove him from the situation that led directly to the shootings.
Earlier this year, juries convicted Jennifer and her husband, James, following weeks of witness testimony and closing arguments. The parents had separate trials.
What happened during Jennifer's trial?
Throughout the trial for Jennifer, the court heard from several lawyers and saw nearly 500 pieces of evidence including text messages, video of the day police searched the Crumbley home following the shooting and items found at a Detroit warehouse where Jennifer and her husband James were arrested when authorities were searching for them.
Text messages between the shooter and his parents were also presented in court.
Testimony included law enforcement, school officials and Jennifer Crumbley herself.
The dean of students at Oxford High School at time of the shooting took the stand to speak about the day of the incident. After teachers found disturbing drawings and internet searches, the shooters parents were called in for an emergency meeting.
Prosecutor Karen McDonald gives closing argument in Jennifer Crumbley trial
Afterward, the shooter was sent back to class and his parents left. Jennifer Crumbley returned to work. Her boss was one of two colleagues to testify about her the day of the shooting, saying after the school meeting, she had opportunities to leave work or continue working from home to address issues with her son but decided to stay.
Hours later when the shooting happened, colleagues testified that Jennifer Crumbley had a strong reaction and left work in a panic.
A 49-minute video showed Jennifer Crumbley in the back of a police car as officers searched her home. Prosecutors wanted jurors to take notes of her demeanor.
Inside their home, officers say they found multiple BB guns, knives and targets in the shooter's two bedrooms. Crumbley was asked about the gun and ammunition, which she said was her husbands responsibility.
Evidence found at the warehouse after the couples arrest included cigarette butts near their vehicle, a mattress, food, $6,617 in cash and prescription medication.
A longtime friend of Jennifer Crumbley, who she admitted to having an affair with, also took the stand. She messaged him after the shooting saying "We're on the run again.
However, Crumbley testified that she and her husband were not hiding but were waiting for their attorney to turn themselves in.
During closing arguments, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald spoke about what constitutes an involuntary manslaughter conviction and detailed it through the law. She then went through the different witnesses who testified for the prosecution.
Defense attorney Shannon Smith gives closing argument in Jennifer Crumbley trial
"Just the smallest thing could have saved Hana and Tate and Justin and Madisyn," McDonald told the jury during closing arguments.
She pointed to what she said were many missed opportunities where Jennifer Crumbley could have helped prevent the shooting including seeking mental health treatment for him.
Defense attorney Shannon Smith said the evidence provided by the prosecution was cherry-picked to paint a picture that did not resemble Crumbley's actual life. Smith said the Crumbley family played together, had fun together and did what families do.
Smith also pointed to the school after leaders told his parents during an emergency meeting hours before the shooting that they didn't think the shooter was a threat.
"No parent would purchase a weapon if they believed their child had mental illnesses," Smith told the jury during closing arguments.
She also said the shooting was not foreseeable for Mrs. Crumbley.
